Thorin
Maybe so, but the fact you can watch downloaded movies from a USB stick or an external hard drive is a winner for me, sony would not allow that sort of behavior at all!! Er, is that sarcasm?

Alex
The Panasonics are rather good. Get a BD-Live system (BluRay Profile 2.0 standard) or a PS3.
AndyT
Is your TV a Bravia? If so all the Sony players and PS3 will sync and you'll be able to control the lot from one remote. Just a little plus for you.

pistonbroke
Why would you buy that when you can get a PS3 for £199 in sainsburys I'll not go into it through fear of offending Thorin the fanboy , but the short answer is, I like buying multi region films and have no use for the games aspect of the PS3. That's hilarious. You are refering to the Sony PS3, yes?
Scott
I bought the sony BD 550s (at least I think thats what its called) The ps3 is a bit noisey with the fan constantly running when watching films (but is you have your home cinema loud enough you'll not notice). I have a two year old son so can rarely use my home cinema to its potential. My stand alone player is much quieter, cost £250, though it's probably cheaper now, and is multi region. Get it from Richer sounds and you'll get a multi region one. The PS3 you are refering to must be broken. Both of mine are almost silent, you would have to mute the TV to hear either of them (slim & older gen). The xbox is in the living room for now and there is a massive difference in noise levels from both. I will miss out on the multiregion option though. I don't have any blu-ray non UK discs but I have a fair few DVD's.

I would give it to him, the PS3 is noisy when yiou are in a quiet scene during a film , definetly 99% of the stadalone Blu ray players are silent Xbox 360 is ridicolous noisy **I will presume you have the dreaded female presence who just cant stop asking stupid Q's or just cant follow the plot of the film, maybe thats why you cannot hear the noisy fan
CJ
Not Blu Ray by definition but still sort of on topic: As I don't have many pre recorded discs (99% of my stuff is downloaded), I decided to try out one of these. As you can see, it is basicly a hard drive that has the ability to connect to a HD TV via component. I havent tried it yet but will let you know what it performs like. I don't know where the xbox comes into it as it's not a blu ray player

I don't know where the xbox comes into it as it's not a blu ray player I knew you had one, didn't know you had a PS3. Was giving it as a noise comparison. Will need to have another listen to my older gen one to see if I can hear it.
