does anyone know how much a sheep is worth?

Basically mate hit a sheep in his tranny – it was down a country lane but a witness took his vans details and passed them to the farmer who owns the sheep.

Coppers came round to my mates house over the weekend and are happy to let this be dealt with as a civil matter – problem is the farmer is demanding £300 for the sheep, would anyone know if this is the going rate? It seems expensive to me since you can buy a whole sheep from the butchers for much less.

TIA

Doesnt matter what you hit if its a farmers it will be his prize sheep or award winning cow you hit. I would say its a lot mate i dont think he gets that much per sheep for sending them to slaughter. Im not a farmer in any way shape or form but i would say its over the odds. I worked in a slaughter house years ago and they werent gettin 300 a pop at all!

The sheep was in public road not secured in the farmers field? Why isn't your mate sueing the farmer for damage to his transsexual?

So you're either a farmer, butcher, or have an unhealthy interest in sheep:p

Or very good with teh interwebs :D

Actually i'm now worried it may be my last comment, although the farmer comment did conjour up a rather worrying image of Michael being like one of the Yorkshire farmers form the James Herriot series "it shouldn't happen to a vet"

Depends what type of road it was. If it was Common Land, then the sheep have the right to roam across the roads and the drivers are liable if there's a collision.

If your 'mate' is not happy about the value placed on the sheep by the farmer, then he will probably place a claim against you via your insurance company.

I suppose you it's a case of which one is worse.. Excess plus future costs of insurance, or £300 now?
