far
Basically mate hit a sheep in his tranny – it was down a country lane but a witness took his vans details and passed them to the farmer who owns the sheep. Coppers came round to my mates house over the weekend and are happy to let this be dealt with as a civil matter – problem is the farmer is demanding £300 for the sheep, would anyone know if this is the going rate? It seems expensive to me since you can buy a whole sheep from the butchers for much less. TIA FAR
tony tt
Doesnt matter what you hit if its a farmers it will be his prize sheep or award winning cow you hit. I would say its a lot mate i dont think he gets that much per sheep for sending them to slaughter. Im not a farmer in any way shape or form but i would say its over the odds. I worked in a slaughter house years ago and they werent gettin 300 a pop at all!
Mike
Have you seen that film Raining Stones? They nick a sheep and get it down the butchers... sell it in the local workies club http://www.sofacinema.co.uk/guardian/images/products/screenshots/1/2201-2-large.jpg I have no idea, but your mates story just made me think of it - cracking film if you haven't seen it anyway

Thorin
Basically mate hit a sheep in his tranny – it was down a country lane but a witness took his vans details and passed them to the farmer who owns the sheep. The sheep was in public road not secured in the farmers field? Why isn't your mate sueing the farmer for damage to his transsexual?

Tricky-Ricky
I would be inclined to look at the legalities regarding the sheep being a hazard on a public road, would have thought the farmer would be liable for allowing it to escape and cause danger to the public. Ewen
I'd pay a fair sum for a sheep, as long as its virgin wool.

SupraAyf
Dpending on the age of the animal it should be no more than 50-100 quid. If it was a very old animal then it's not worth a penny;)

Matt H
The sheep was in public road not secured in the farmers field? Why isn't your mate sueing the farmer for damage to his transsexual? Depends what type of road it was. If it was Common Land, then the sheep have the right to roam across the roads and the drivers are liable if there's a collision. It seems expensive to me since you can buy a whole sheep from the butchers for much less. If your 'mate' is not happy about the value placed on the sheep by the farmer, then he will probably place a claim against you via your insurance company. I suppose you it's a case of which one is worse.. Excess plus future costs of insurance, or £300 now?
