Tricky-Ricky
I'll have to stop being an aggressive bugger, getting too old for it, but some people just wind me up! Had to take the wife to the hospital this morning, got back and as expected nowhere to park as all the people who work or commute park in this area as the restrictions push them further up the road (too tight to pay for parking) Anyway had to go pop out again after parking up one of the side streets, still no spaces when i come back, so working on the PC and have my cctv on waiting for a space, car starts to pull out, so i ask the wife to just stand hold it while i get my car. Come back to find some ignorant twat trying to run here over, while she says she is holding the space while i get my car, now normally fair enough, but the fact that he is prepared to run her over in order to get the space just incenses me, so i just double park opposite, and walk over to him bang on his window and ask just what he thinks hes doing trying to run my wife over! So he just replies that anyone can park here, to which i reply yes but not when my wife is occupying the space, he then says parking is at a premium around here and i work in this area, to which i reply well i live here so after you have finished trying to run my wife over sod off! Argumentative fooker says well you find me a space:diablo: i replied go and take the space i have just run around the corner to move from while my wife was keeping this space, that you are trying to run her over in:flame: Now by this time i am starting to get rather angry, and i think its showing, so he winds up his window, i just say move it and go and sit in my car waiting for him to move, i just sit there holding up the traffic, think he thought i might go away but i just wait looking at him until he pulls off giving me the V sign. I don't like to think what my next move would have been as i am inclined not to back down once somebody has really pissed me off, but as i said i'm getting too old for this, but if you attempt to hurt my family well what can i say. sorry rant over needed to get it off my chest, now b r e a t h! TTRickeh
To be fair, parking spaces are for cars not women standing in them. I'd of probably been quite annoyed if I was that guy trying to find a space as well.

James
We do that all the time across from my work when a space becomes available and our cars are in the carpark round the back - I walk out and just stand in the space. Have had people try to take the space before. The most frightening thing being that - more than 50% of the time - they aren't paying enough attention to the surroundings to even see that I'm standing there and I've had to literally jump out the way on occassion! tbourner
I'd have just run her over, you can't stand in a space and wait for your partner to come round in his car - it's finders keepers when parking spaces are rare I'm afraid.

That sort of reply just makes me feel totally justified in pulling the next person that tries that out of their car and knocking the shite out of them! Its not like he didn't see her either, she was waving and knocking on his window as he was reversing into her! She had found the space and was trying to keep it! she had a car it just hadn't quite arrived.

Either way, trying to park when there are no spaces is pretty stressful at the best of times, even when I pull forward to parallel park and someone pulls forwards into the space I just ignore it and carry on, really not a good idea to get all stressed and upset about. Obviously if he actually had run her over, feel free to break his arms and legs.
benkei
Why don't they just make the car parks bigger? It's no secret that parking is a nightmare, and the lack of spaces just seems ridiculous! If there is a demand for something, you increase the stock to see the demand.

They're REDUCING the number in Portsmouth!!! The new transport man on the council wants less parking spaces replaced with cycle lanes, and more traffic lights!!!!! I think the general government idea is to make driving unbearable in the hope that more people will cycle or use public transport - not realising that people won't do that and they'll just get more and more wound up by it all instead. tbourner
So his plan is to increase congestion and cyclist deaths? I've been emailing a local councillor and the Traffic Signals Service Manager for the last few months, and TBH they seem dead set against reducing the number of traffic lights. I've given suggestions and locations where they could at least be part time signals, they just seem to want more and more lights all over the place! That was my whole point, and the reason for my anger, he was prepared to cause her damage unless she moved, and no its not good to get so stressed about it, but wouldn't you? And yes i would go to prison for my wife not the parking spot! I wonder just how many of you who say "its only a parking spot" and "i would just run over somebody", would actually see it that way if it was a member of your family being threatened with an offencive weapon to all intents and purposes? Its ail a point of perspectives, and i am merely ranting about mine.
Rob
So his plan is to increase congestion and cyclist deaths? All councils have a Unitary Development Plan for their whole area. This will include limiting parking as much as possible to encourage "alternative means of transport" for green reasons, or as I like to call it "f***ing off to an out of town retail park, how do you like that then? You bunch of idiots, now everyone loses, everyone except me...and Tesco." I recently completed 3 small office buildings in Newcastle, the council allowed us 38 car parking spaces. The office space can easily accommodate 200+ employees, so presumably Newcastle City planners are still living in the 50's when only the bosses drove in and all the workers cycled or took the bus or walked. Its a ridiculously blinkered view of modern life based in woolly eco-thinking.

It does seem particularly cowardly to use his car to force a woman out of the way. I have seen people use this method of keeping spaces in my town and whilst I don't agree with it, I have to accept it and certainly not try to intimidate someone with my car. It must be against the law to do that, to effectively run into a pedestrian albeit at a slow speed.
Abz
If you want to go to work & you do it everyday then either cycle, bus or train. It is what public transport has been made for, this would leave the road less congested for when I have a day off midweek & have to sit in a jam because the person in front of me wants to go 4 miles in his car. You live there mate, you have more rights to the space then he has! Some advise... next time open his door (its more confronting) and if he thinks he is going to get out & hit you one, just slam the door on him & then his yours Done this a few times & it works quite well, though most times doesn't get to this. ozz
Fair point if he was being an a*se towards your missus and putting her in danger, thats well out of order. I'd not be a happy bunny in that situation either. Looking at the reverse, you're stressed out, maybe late for something, can't park anywhere and you see an empty space and dive in. You wouldn't expect someone to be stood there and even a small bump from a car is gonna hurt. Personally, I value my missus more than a parking space and wouldn't let her be there. To carry on whilst he has seen your missus is crazy though.
benkei
If you want to go to work & you do it everyday then either cycle, bus or train. It is what public transport has been made for I spent the first 2 years of university getting the bus there and back, and I would not recomment it to anybody! For the third year I drove. It was a lot less stressful, more comfortable, it didn't smell, I didn't have to stand out in the rain waiting for my car to arrive late, or even drive straight past me! There were no chavs in there using their phone as an mp3 player, and parking cost less than the bus fare. Over all, buses are out dated, over priced, unreliable and are treated like anything that is open to the public - full of litter, vandalised, and not a pleasant place to be! I've paid my road tax, my insurance and my fuel, I'll use my car thank you! It's why I bought it!

ozz
Modern cars are equipped with see-through glass panels for this reason. Perhaps his wife is very short, we shouldn't discriminate against short people. Or he might rely on parking sensors, and the OPs wife may be very thin. Or short and thin, even more dangerous. Or he may have the latest auto-parking system and there is a software bug that doesn't show up objects in the way. I admit, its an unlikely scenario! Matt H
parking issue Tricky, I think the problem was, your wife didn't have one of this while she was waiting: http://www.littletikes.com/productimages/full/f_4855_N_1.jpg If she did, the other driver would have obviously seen that the space was occupied by a vehicle, and the whole kafuffle could have been avoided.
