jevansio
Is there such a thing as a short drill bit? 12mm ones are huge, and I've got a bit of a space problem, a drill half the size (stubby) would be perfect, I've been looking & can't find anything. Kev.O
Jay, have you thought about using an angled drill?
johnd-mkiv
Id just cut the drill bit down and regrind it
AndyT
Regrinding is a specialist operation. I know it can be done, but if it's done wrong you'll just get a lump of metal that heats up rather than cuts.
Kev.O
What about something like this?
jevansio
Yeah was looking into something like that Kev. My mate has said he has a very short drill he uses for work & is going to borrow me it so should be sorted
Chris Wilson
LEND me it..... Sorry, pet hate You could buy a standard 12 mm drill, cut it short with angle grinder, then get someone to weld on a short stepped sleeve, making sure it's true in a lathe. Depends on how deep the drill has to go.
bluecoup
if your not drilling something hardcore id just chop the drill bit in half and use the already sharp end no need to sharpeb it then
Scott
If you send me it I'll cut and re-grind it for you. We are in the middle of a move at the moment so I would just need to check the buff is still kicking about.

dangerous brain
For future reference HSS drill bits are very brittle. Stick a towel over it then stick it in a vice and smack it short and hard tap with a hammer and it will snap straight off leaving you with a shorter drill bit. 12mm will need a damn good tap though. nevins
If you know a mechanic or coach builder they will have just the tool, a right angled drill but more than likely it will be an air tool.
