DannyW
Car is a TD5 landrover discovery, the header tank is full of an oily gunge and the engine oil on the dipstick is suddenly very low, also the heater is now only blowing cold air. Is this definately a symptom of a blown head gasket? or could it be something else? Have asked on the landie forum but few replies at the moment so thought i'd ask on here as well. cheers. absz
if its black engine oil then it could be the oil cooler but if its creamy then its more likely to be the headgasket. the td5 engines do suffer from head problems but its normally fuel in sump. Thats what i thought, hence me asking, it just seems a bit backwards doesnt it? It is a dark creamy sludge in the header tank so my guess was head gasket, i'll have to get it booked in on monday i suppose and prepare myself for a rather large bill

absz
could get expensive the wiring loom for the injectors tends to fall apart when disturbed as the loom is inside the cam cover. also the injectors seals will require replacing. we have four td5 landrovers at work and all of them had to have new cylinder heads fitted under warranty due to constant problems. Its had a new injector loom fitted recently so that should be good, had a few guys tell me that it could cost around £800 if it's just a gasket and skim job.
