Charlotte
As I've just attended a hand hygiene I'm qualified to say that paper towels are better than driers.
Ian C
Case study On average, I get about one cold a year to 18 months and have done for as long as I remember. I've always washed my hands, in the last 3 years of so I've been doing the proper hospital wash as well, so fairly thorough. I spent x number of years working in the same building. Then, a couple of years ago, I get 6 bad colds in 5 months, one of which was a double-tap, and it was over christmas so pretty much ruined my time. The only thing that changed in my life was, tadaa, a whole table full of, erm, lets say "offshore resource" was parked behind me. So I was now sharing surfaces, doors, and the toilets with, erm, lets say "hygenically challenged" people who didn't even wash their hands after number 2's So, I figure, my immune system was so compromised fending off the bacteria these fuckers spawned on every flat surface that I was more susceptible to the average headcold - thanks for affecting my health and ruining my christmas, you filthy bastards. So I started using a spray-on alcogel type thing and the colds stopped. Then I changed jobs and moved away from "offshore resource" and although I stopped using the alcogel spray, I didn't get any more colds. Conclusion is that other people's poor hygeine around you affects your health, so there. -Ian

Germs get spread by people not washing their hands, plain and simple. Have you ever looked at your hands under one of those uv lights, it's scary. tbourner
We carry a little bottle of alcohol gel with us all the time (mainly because of the dog), so I don't bother washing but I do clean my hands after with gel.

That or died there's no middle ground, whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger lol. My point in this case is that the reason you got ill is primarily because you sterilise your environment so much you are now imprisoned in that sterile world because you can't tolerate germs due to your incessant cleaning routine removing all forms of germs. I don't eat my own sh*t just for the record, and I don't generally eat when covered in other creatures poo or oils or greases (but its not been unknown). Last time I checked I wasn't dead. In comparison to most people I don't get ill all that often. I can eat food days to weeks out of date, I never ever wash my hands unless I have to. You want to go on some anal hygeine regime don't expect me to mirror it just because I will make you ill by shaking your hand, get over yourself or get a seclusion zone just don't enforce your paranoia on me. Just because you don't wash your hands and don't catch anything, doesn't mean you won't - and how about that innocent person that you shake the hand of, not very nice for them is it? - you might not put your own hand in your mouth but you might put it on a surface or touch someone's things - hence the spread. Tricky-Ricky
I agree that we use too much sterilising/hygiene related products these days, and i am quite convinced that it leads to heightened sensitivity to common germs/viruses that people 30 years ago would not even notice. philstowell
Whats the point in worrying about all this when the toothbrush generally carries more germs than pi55 and door handles and all that stuff? if your bog is in the bathroom, ie, bog, sink and bath/shower, the toothbrush holder is normally higher than the bog - when you have a dump, then wipe and flush, them pooh particles bounce up around the room (clingy little fellers). then, all that happens after meals? before bed? 1st thing in the morning is.......... stick the said brush under a dribble of water bang some paste on, then stick it in ya gob? sh1t, must remember to move my toothbrush:d

Charlotte
and a persecution complex!!!!! I think what I failed to mention was that I work in the NHS and I have to wash my hands for the sake of the people that come into the clinic. Luckily I'm not one of the ones that walks around with sh*t on my hands otherwise there might be a spread of MRSA...swine flu...oh ermm. China Man
There are a lot more things more dangerous then not washing your hands after using the loo. I wash my hands after using the loo at work and wash my hands before giving vaccination to patients. What strike me is that if you are to do thing right I will need to wash my hands everytime I handle cash notes, coins, credit card etc These items spread virus and bacteria far more effective than from toliet handles. Have you ever seen a cashier wash their hands everytime they collect payment and hand out money, no!
