Guest buddster33
Your thoughts please...... Only had my Supra a month and it has done this twice now. Whilst driving on the motorway the dash will turn off as if you have turned the key back one click but the engine still runs and stereo still works. If you turn the key back one click, then forward again all is fine. Took it to an alarm place after the first time it happended and they removed the 10 year old alarm/immobiliser saying that it was unreliable. Then it did it again today? Is this likely to be a faulty connection somewhere or the ignition barrel? Any ideas welcome!
adnanshah247
must definately be a loose connector, take it apart and push the wires etc. tightly.
Terminator
Sounds like a relay in the circuit is cutting out/loosing power.
Guest buddster33
Update on this mystery. Had the dash off today to swap the stereo so had a good look and wiggle of the various connectors. All seemed fine. Went for a drive afterwards and whilst stood still at traffic lights the dash turned off again along with the power steering. However, this time I just tried wiggling the key (rather than turning it back and forward a click) and it fired up again. This would indicate the ignition barrel itself right? Are these serviceable or is it a swap job? If a swap job, is it possible to keep the same key or will I need the matching key for the replacement barrel? Thanks in advance. Guest buddster33
Just to close this thread off, new ignition switch that fits on the end of the barrel was about £80 from toyota. Bit of a pita to swap over (head upside down under dash) but this solved my problem of the ignition randomly cutting out.
