VVTI DBW standalone ECU's

Motec M800 will work the stock VVTi seamlessly. I know, but am not really speaking to ( ;)) a VVti Supra owner with M800 working the DBW properly with all safety features still enabled. Ryan knows who it is ;)

If it were mine I'd fit a none VVti TB and adaptor, or early plenum, and get rid of all that *hit. I'd then run a normal, or a remote ICV. Job sorted.

Is Ryan on speaking terms with said owner ;) ?

I doubt there'll be any meaningful difference in air flow, and I'd definitely stick with an OE Toyota plenum.

The VVTi manifold is thinner then the stock TT, i would image the volume of air is less. As Kopite mentioned we just replaced the manifold with a stock unit and put a stock TB on it , wired up the ICV and its seems to work now after many hours of playing around with the AEMpro ecu.

Thanks chaps

Good thread. Mine has aftermarket intake manifold and throttlebody so the DBW was dumped, but it's good to know that it's possible to keep it.

Andrew - I know you probably don't know as ESP done all the work but the vvti intake manifold has a different IAC (Idle air control) setup than the non-vvti (as it's electronic in the throttle body, as far as I'm aware) and I'm wondering what they used for idle control in your car with the aftermarket manifold.

Back on topic - I know one solution is early model intake and TB but the Vipec V88 ECU allows the DBW system to work also, but you need to purchase an additional module. - Just another option - but not sure on support in UK.

I'm going to ditch the vvti intake manifold as I have a hypertune manifold, only thing I need to do is figure out what to do with the IAC, might need to go aftermarket. Any suggestions?

You assume correctly, Dusty - Glen is the man to talk to about the technical changes.
