Guest shaddow
Hi, As im new to supra awnership I just thought id ask 2 questions. 1, My car has started to hit the rev limiter in 1st gear and wont shift to 2nd when I go hell for leather, Its an AUTO! Its only just started happening but apart from that it changes gear fine when tootling along normally. Iv got some apexi rev meter computer that was already in the car and iv been pressing buttons to turn it off as it seems rather pointless for road use so I may ahve dome something....? 2, What shuld the car idle at as mine is at about 500rpm and shudders sometimes. Thanks!!!!
Guest shaddow
sorry to sound stupid but which is the overdrive button???
dukenukem
Hello, I have one of those Apexi rev meter things but it doesn't affect the gear changes. When you chill round town the auto box will change gear nice and early to save fuel, but when you floor it it will get right into the powerband before changing, that's normal, or are you saying it won't change at all? The overdrive is the switch by your thumb when you grab the shifter. It let's you go above 125 mph when on (overdrive gear), or keeps the engine matched to the road speed when off. (P.S. Don't ask about the red button will you )
Guest shaddow
Iv got a trd gear know but there is no switch on it. When I floor it off the mark it goes all the way then just bounces off the limiter and wont shift. Just normal driving its fine though
dukenukem
Is the red triangle on in the middle of the rev counter? Any error codes? I did have a problem once when the wire into the ECU that was spliced to to fit the APEXI rev timer thingy came out any my car wouldn't go above 2nd. Error code said 42 (I think) which was for the speed sensor. I found this loose wire out of the ECU and plugged it back in and everything was fine. tooquicktostop
I would get a stock shifter fitted first of all, it may not solve the problem but whats to point of having a nice looking auto shifter if you loose the OD function, it may also be causing other issues, is it locked in OD on or off (these is a light on the dash to inform you)
Guest shaddow
No light on when im driving about. Seriously do I not have a a overdrive button on my car, 96 auto. I have not tried the error code test so il give that a shot.
Guest shaddow
My gear knob looks identical to this and this but this does not seem to have a overdrive button on it ether, well from the little you can see anyway http://www.btinternet.com/~branners/resources/reviews/tiptronic/images/r0300285.jpg
garethr
The overdrive is the switch by your thumb when you grab the shifter. It lets you go above 125 mph when on (overdrive gear), or keeps the engine matched to the road speed when off.Eh? Overdrive is just 4th gear. My gear knob looks identical to this and this but this does not seem to have a overdrive button on it either, well from the little you can see anyway. The overdrive button isn't needed. There are four gear positions in the gate. First question: when you pull away from a standstill and move the lever by hand (from L to 2 to M to D) do you get four (forward) gears? Guest shaddow
Ok, I dont get this now. Just been for a blast and it drives 100% when round town and semi sensible driving but i went down the bypass flat out and it wont change gear automatically no mater what mode the box is in, it just bounces off the limiter!!!! the only way i can change gear is if i let off the throttle for a second then it changes. iv read a similar post but there didn seem to be a result. Guest shaddow
Il check gearbox oil today. I did a diagnostics check and the engine light just flashed constantly. I unplugged the air flow sensor to check it picked up that fault code and it came up and thats the only fault code that came up.
Guest shaddow
I checked trans oil and its clean and full. The only thing iv done to the car since I got it is unplug one side of the reserc valve and blanc off the tube so im going to plumb it back in and see if that helps. worth a shot.
