CW pipes vs. other 3" options

Rob,

I have Chris Wilson Decat pipes and i know that they do a good job in keeping the boost down, although am unsure if the results are a different on a VVTI. Chris's pipes and something like a Blitz/HKS exhaust will push the boost to 18 psi which is the limit on stock turbos. Some cars will run higher than that and will require a restrictor ring fitting, i would have thought too bigger pipes (3") would give too much boost unless you were keeping the stock cat back exhaust.

Hopefully some of the other guys will offer some other comments.

Regards

Chris

If it's both cats you will need to control boost levels then go with the CW pipes. I can't think of anyone else offering anything better for the J-spec especially the VVTI

Well I have been to see Leon and he showed me some custom 3" downpipes that he flogs (not Wison specials!) - and I plan to do a full de-cat

He raves about them but what concerns me is that I dont want to always run up to my boost limit for stock TTs all the time.

So - if I went for these swanky 3" jobbies and went for a full de-cat - would't I be able to control the boost (ie. keep it lower, even down to standard levels) with a Boost Controller - then just whack it up when its funtime?

Or am I effectively going to be maxing out all the time with a full-decat and 3" DPs, boost controller or not?

I would imagine that Leon uses a restrictor ring to keep boost to pre determined level (around 17psi). Boost controllers are designed to increase boost although Leon has some success with trimming J-spec cars with the Blitz DSBC.

IMO the difference between stock boost and 17psi really isn't so much as to really worry about on a day to day basis, it doesn't represent such a big jump and with RLTC fitted the performance is perfectly useable all year round.

It seems you are correct.

I rand Leon and he said that if the car demonstrated boost spikes then he drops in a drilled restrictor plate - keeping the boost down to stock - then you can wind it up with the boost controller.

Cool.
