Oil in intercooler and pipes :(

ADD

Recommended Posts

Hi guys after havin problems mapping the car with Ryan it became apparent there was some oil in the intercooler pipe leading to the intake plenum, so I took the I/C off and all the lower pipes turbo side and intake side have oil in them. Going to get the car compression tested and a leak down test. Any more ideas what it could be or what to do about it? Cheers

I would say from personal experience that is the sign of a turbo oil seal, do you get any smoke on overrun (when you stop accelerating)??

sorry to be the bearer of bad news but a lot of oil in somewhere it shouldnt be is not a good thing

if it does turn out to be turbo oil seal, I got mine re furbished at CR Turbos, very reasonable and I had them back in about 4 days!

It was quite a while ago now but if I remember correctly it was about £650 for the pair (refurbished with metal wheels etc instead of ceramic) so not really a bad price. Best if you give them a ring because they will need to know what turbos you have ( CT20, CT12, CT12a etc) it should say on the turbo housing or someone will pop along and tell you.

All the best and good luck. TBH i'd rather it was turbo oil seals than valve stems etc.

My seals don't leak after only 40k miles. There is a fine mist build up on the intake. Take from that what you will. I'm not worried. :)

Andy I'm not quite sure what your saying? My hybrids have done allot more than 40k miles ian c had them then soop dogg had them before me.

Hello all, sorry to bring this one up again but i have done about 600 miles in the car since i cleaned all the pipes out and last night took them off again to see if there was a build up again BUT there was nothing in any of the pipes at all. Could it be that the prob is elsewhere and not the turbos?

thanks

But...

Took the car out for a spin today, there is white smoke on over run :( think this points to turbo seals doesn't it? Cheers

Has this disappeared though?

if the car is working and not over heating and your oil levels are good, keep some money in a jar and just enjoy it while it works :) ,

then when it dose stop working, youl know what is broken. open the money pot and get it fixed

disclaimer . 99% of advice given by me is just what i would do, and could otherwised be discribed as bad advice
