ADD
Hi guys after havin problems mapping the car with Ryan it became apparent there was some oil in the intercooler pipe leading to the intake plenum, so I took the I/C off and all the lower pipes turbo side and intake side have oil in them. Going to get the car compression tested and a leak down test. Any more ideas what it could be or what to do about it? Cheers Ad
T2 MSW
Lots of oil or a bit, like a fine mist??
dr_jekyll
front turbo oil seal?, do you have any smoke from the exhaust
ADD
It's a fine mist inside all of the vertical pipes but quite a layer in the horizontal pipes more on the intake side though.
ADD
No smoke on boost, just a small amount of White mist on start up first thing.
Chiefgroover
After you have washed out the intercooler, you may replace the rubber hoses as I had this problem many years ago and intercooler pipes will blow off all the time if you dont now they are oily. j1mb0b1
It's normal to have a little oli in there. I removed mine not to long ago and there was a fine mist of oil in the pipes on I/C

BlackWatch66
I would say from personal experience that is the sign of a turbo oil seal, do you get any smoke on overrun (when you stop accelerating)?? sorry to be the bearer of bad news but a lot of oil in somewhere it shouldnt be is not a good thing if it does turn out to be turbo oil seal, I got mine re furbished at CR Turbos, very reasonable and I had them back in about 4 days! http://www.crturbos.co.uk/

AndyT
My seals don't leak after only 40k miles. There is a fine mist build up on the intake. Take from that what you will. I'm not worried.
BlackWatch66
Thanks for ur help mate, speaking a trader on here they thought it could more than likely be that. May I ask how much it cost u please?! Ta It was quite a while ago now but if I remember correctly it was about £650 for the pair (refurbished with metal wheels etc instead of ceramic) so not really a bad price. Best if you give them a ring because they will need to know what turbos you have ( CT20, CT12, CT12a etc) it should say on the turbo housing or someone will pop along and tell you. All the best and good luck. TBH i'd rather it was turbo oil seals than valve stems etc.

ADD
Took the car out for a spin today, there is white smoke on over run think this points to turbo seals doesn't it? Cheers

ADD
Hello all, sorry to bring this one up again but i have done about 600 miles in the car since i cleaned all the pipes out and last night took them off again to see if there was a build up again BUT there was nothing in any of the pipes at all. Could it be that the prob is elsewhere and not the turbos? thanks Ad

pistonbroke
Burning oil is not white smoke, it's blue. White smoke is antifreeze, or simple condensation. How have you been driving the car for that 600 miles.? Lots of boosting, or just pootling about.?
ADD
I've been on full boost mate obviously not for the whole 600 although I have noticed some darkish smoke on full boost... But it's generally behaving itself.
dr_jekyll
if the car is working and not over heating and your oil levels are good, keep some money in a jar and just enjoy it while it works , then when it dose stop working, youl know what is broken. open the money pot and get it fixed disclaimer . 99% of advice given by me is just what i would do, and could otherwised be discribed as bad advice
ADD
Think im gonna start looking into a faulty PCV for this problem... that would screw mapping up massively!
