creativename
Hi guys, I had to take off my manifold so sort a stud issue out. I took off the air box (standard) distrubutor and the water pipe next to it. Had the head work done, then went to put it back together again. Put the manifold back on, then the water pipe, then the distributor, then replaced the air box with a new induction kit. Happy days, went to start it and it wouldnt go, one minute its trying to start but not quite getting there the next time its just not trying or cuts out. I did not take off any of the distributor leads just unbolted it. Iv adjusted the distributor god knows how many times and still no joy If anybody has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. cheers Adam
Guest Suprafly
Is it possible you may have contaminated the rotor arm in the distributor cap? You can clean the contact electrode of the rotor arm on your tyre wall. It sounds like something daft, it might just be that.
creativename
when i fisrt put the dizzy back on it wouldnt go straight in, so I took it out and had a fiddle with it until it went in.
Guest Suprafly
Sounds like a possible cause, take it back out and rub the metal contact of the rotor arm on your tyre wall until it looks clean, and free from possible contamination. Do not try to clean it with anything metal like a screwdriver or anything like that.

pistonbroke
Pull one of the leads from the spark plug and see if you're getting a spark.
absz
Are you sure that the distributor is timed correctly ? make sure that the timing mark on the crankshaft is at tdc then remove no1 spark plug to confirm that the piston is all the way up on that cylinder. with the distributor cap removed the rotor arm should be pointing towards no1 spark lead.
