Digital
Are there noticeable differences between TwinTurbo auto and manual rear-diffs? Yesterday I picked up a 1998 TT 6speed LSD reardiff. , and at home I compared it to a 1993 TT auto diff and it looks exactly the same.. The code on the back are almost the same: 1998 TT 6speed LSD: F20SZ (and under this) 2- 1993 TT auto: F20SZ (and under this) 2-1 The drive-shaft-holders(?, I'm Dutch) on the auto-diff are black, on the 6speed are rusty. Digital
Thanks. I read the topic, it answers the question if there are visually no differences. But is there any way to tell if it's an auto- or 6speed-diff then? Could my 1993 TT auto-diff stay at it's place when I do the conversion of a 1998 TT 6speed gearbox? pedrosixfour
1993 TT Auto Diff ratio (UK & JDM): 3.769 1998 (Facelift) TT 6 Speed Diff ratio (JDM): 3.266 TT auto diff for better acceleration or TT 6 speed diff for higher top speed (in theory) or lower engine speed at a particular road speed. Thats my understanding of the situation.
Digital
So the auto-diff could stay without destroying anything?
pedrosixfour
Provided everything connects up properly the diff should survive. I'm not sure if there are any differences between the auto and 6 speed prop shaft though like overall length. (The prop shaft is between the gearbox and the diff.) pedrosixfour
Actually if both diffs are outwardly identical like you said then I doubt the prop shaft will be a problem.
Digital
The 6speed gearbox is longer so it's propshaft is shorter, so I will fit this. But my only question is can I destroy anything, diff, gearbox or something, if I leave the auto-diff..

Any 6speed-drivers with auto-reardiffs? Edited November 18, 2009 by Digital (see edit history)
JamieP
I know a few single cars running auto diffs and they seem to be fine, auto diff makes for very close ratio on a 6 speed car. Anybody else who can confirm this? Any 6speed-drivers with auto-reardiffs? Looks like this one is listed wrong, auto diff listed as a manual diff, watch out if you are thinking of buying;) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Supra-2JZ-JZA80-Manual-Rear-Diff-Rear-Differential-1994_W0QQitemZ180438765390QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item2a02fd0f4e Edited November 30, 2009 by JamieP (see edit history)
