Guest EncoreWRC
Has anyone on this site written a step by step guide on how to undertake a Single Turbo Conversion?? I have done a search and had loads of hits about Single turbo projects but not a step by step guide.. I have built a Cosworth engine from new parts with the help of a mechanic friend but he is no longer local..... Any hints and tips available?? adnanshah247
its not that difficult but you need to make sure your using qulaity gaskets etc. otherwise in 4-7 months you will be taking it all apart again!
Guest EncoreWRC
I will be buying all the top stuff... want the job done properly....... Just need a little help with oil feeds etc..... and where to tap a water line from for turbo cooling.... from memory anyway..... Until I pick the bits up I don't know the exact details of what else I will need...... Just asking for any general pointers....... Or anyone who has knowledge and wants to help convert a TT to a large single as funds are now very very tight......

Most difficult part IMO is taking the stock twins off, the rest is easy.
heckler
Yup, removing the stock twin was a pain in the ass! Lots of WD40 and a massive breaker bar, bleeding knuckles, sweaing and lots of coffee, mind you I did it in 14 hours on my own... A year on, no problems yet
Guest EncoreWRC
I know I will ahve all the help I need from you guys.... and Dude... I know where you are fella so I will pop down and ask questions..... Like I say... I have a basic knowledge, intermediate mechanical skills and understanding and experience of cosworths engines.... and I am told one turbo engine is just like another..... I am sure that a little guidance along the way and I will be fine...... For me.. removing the twins will be the easy job as its just undoing nuts and bolts.... I am more worried about installing the new bits, running oil lines etc etc... thats when I will be shouting for the help..!!!!!! Dude, if you do plan o doing a single conversion one day... give me a shout and I will come along and be nosey!
TLicense
Have a read through of this. Although it's for a big twin turbo kit, the vast majority of it covers what you're doing. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=70974

adnanshah247
me and robert together had every tool possible and spent 6 hours trying to remove my twin turbos off the engine. in the end, our hands were cut up, the turbos bolts were impossible to get off, so we gave up, reconnected all the vacuum lines and called it a day when the car was in a proper garage, we took the engine out and it was much easier to do everything.
