hodge
Hi folks To reduce the amount of water pipes around the engine, seems im fitting an oil cooler I thought I could remove the stock 1 and use the N/A oil pick up as it doesnt use an oil cooler. This also means I can use the N/A water pipe which comes from out the back of the water pump along the side of the engine as the TT pipe runs around the back to feed the stock oil cooler. Any opinions on this 1..........
mrgee2jz
i do this every time. seems pointless using an extra sandwhich plate taking up more room, just make sure you use a thermosticly controlled oil cooler take of plate.
hodge
What's a thermostatically controller whatys plate thingy. Last time I fitted an oil cooler I bought a sandwich plate from speedflow with -10an male fittings and a 25 row cooler. Worked a treat but I left the stock cooler in. mrgee2jz
its a plate with a thermostat built in. And it opens at around 80c so it doesnt over cool the oil. otherwise the oil doesnt burn off the toxins into vapours

j80leo
I think most have them bulit in, Paul Whiffin sells them with the thermostat in for around £50-60 i remember. You will have to have a new bolt made up that connects the sandwich plate to the car as the one on the car is to long as it's for the old oil cooler. Easy to make up or just do what i did and get someone who knows what they are doing and use the old one from your car and some of the new one that comes with the plate and cut them down and weld together get the right measurements and you will be ok. mrgee2jz
yep. i can supply the bits of need be. you can either get it built into the plate or as a in-line one. i wouldnt reccomend not using a thermostat. it could lead to all sorts of problems. you wouldnt run your rad without one would you? As the temperature difference can start craking heads etc... same with oil in extreme cases, but the main reason is the oil needs to be around 80c to correctly remove condensation/toxins as far as i rememeber....
