Auto electrician near Bristol area?

I am enjoying the supra so far but it needs a little work on the dash before I would be happy using it for long trips. I knew about most of this stuff when I bought the car so not a shock but things I would like to sort out.

I have a few guides on how to sort a few bits but I would feel happier paying someone to know its done right preferably by someone with experience. Can I just put it in the hands of an auto electrician and hopefully walk away happy?

Alternately if there is anyone else in my area who feels comfortable looking at these things I would be happy to pay for your time.

The things I need fixing, adjusting are...

1. Speedo is out, a bit more dramatically at higher speeds (reading higher than what it is), I don’t think its reading KPH on MPH dials but I thought all you needed was a small in-line converter in the wiring loom to complete the conversion so not sure how easy it is to adjust.

2. Petrol gauge seems to work intermittently, sometimes it seems ok, other times I don’t know if I can trust it 100% at the moment so I try to keep the tank as full as possible.

3. Temp gauge works but only seems to come up quarter way. This might well be accurate due to the aftermarket cooling but every car I have been in generally sits halfway between hot and cold. Just need a what would I suggest on this one.

4. The overdrive light (OD off) is on most of the time meaning I dont think I can use the extra gear, sometimes it does not flash up on the dash so perhaps just a loose connection but mechanically i would like to check I am getting the extra gear. This is probably the biggest pain at the moment as it rips through petrol.

5. Cigg lighter and radio not wired up, small things but can hopefully do it at the same time.

Anyone got any recommendations for this or a club member who would be interested in taking the job on? I guess the speedo fix could be expensive if it requires a rolling road to calibrate it. Any idea what I should be looking at as a guide price for a qualified auto electrician to look into this?

Cheers for your help:)

Take a sat nav out with you if your not sure if its reading mph or kph. There are some guides on here somewhere to help as its very easy. Basicly all you do is drive along and watching the sat nav get a friend to fit the dial back on.

Maybe a faulty sender. is your car turbo or n/a? if turbo has it had an uprated fuel pump at some time? Could also be a sticky dial (common toyota fault)

Viscous fan clutch could be knackered and lots of stuff on the net to tell you how to test, again can be a dial fault, low temp stat or stats been removed. Has it always done this?

Not that clued up on autos but there are others in the area who are.

Also where abouts are you in bristol?

Maybe you can pop over to weston one evening or weekend and we can have a look.

Cheers for the pointers, some good stuff to look into there. I might snag some of the guys on the upcoming rolling road day as well to see if they can suggest anything as well. I am in the Chipping Sodbury / Yate area so just on the outskirts of Bristol.

I am happy to pay to get it done rather than hope I can sort it myself and risk knackereing something. Having only ever owned one car at a time before I am in a crappy situation at the moment...

I bought the supra and I also have a toyota celica and never knew about the having no claims on one car at a time thing, as such I had to cancel my celica insurance to move the no claims to the supra. A few days later I got the road tax renewal for the celica which I cant get because its no longer insured so for now I have stored it in my folks garage but am slowly trying to sell it which is tricky with no tax or insurance I cant really give them a test drive.

When it does sell I might get a cheap £500 runabout for works trips and stuff as I dont really want to use the supra for that. I did play with the idea of leaving myself hard up for cash but keeping the celica in which case I would have to start with 0 no claims which would really sting so for now I just want to get the sup sorted
