Guest jaredb-123
As the title states , when i turn my car on it revs right up to redline and wont stop. I have a 1998 vvti tt 6sp man jap import BPU. It only revs like that sometimes and can happen at any time . Once it started to rev when i was driving. I have tryed to reset the ecu over and over , it seemed fine for 4 days or so and started its old tricks . The second turbo seems it dosent come on as well and it overheated the other day , no leaks filled it back up let it idle for 10 min and it was fine . I have just had it back from the pannel beaters as i hit a kangaroo and it smashed the frint lh side pushed the fusse box into inlet but no visable damge to that area . No warning lights
cheekymonkey
VVTI's are DBW aren't they? Sounds like you have a dodgy TPS. I am sure someone more technical than me will say how it can be tested. It's probably in the service manual somewhere.
MarkR
There is a thread on here in technical somewhere on how to test the TPS. Carl0s was having issues with idling and I think someone posted the link in there.

Chris Wilson
They should be totally fail safe. That's the theory anyway, your fault sounds far more mechanical than electrical. However, does it rev to the red line and stay there without you having first pressed the accelerator? If so maybe the throttle motor is receiving power from a damaged wire? I'd have a seriously good look at the wiring to the TPS sensor and that area. If there's insulation damage, or connector damage I'd strip it all back and get it repaired properly, or find another loom.
mrgee2jz
i know it sounds silly but make sure the throttle is not somehow stuck open. if thats ok then check your idle valve a that could not be closing. and if its that, the only thing that controls it is the ecu. try swpping it over and try again

The motor on the DBW controls idling as far as I'm aware.
