AndyT
Another cost cutting exercise from our unelected government. I actually work for the RFA and hadn't got a clue this was happening 'til yesterday. If you feel strongly enough about our military and it's support please sign. Thanks and all the best. AndyT
Cheers guys. Hopefully it's just The News blowing things out of proportion but in these times we're an easy target.

Scoboblio
So what's being cut? Unless I'm looking in the wrong place there are no details at all in that petition.

AndyT
So what's being cut? Unless I'm looking in the wrong place there are no details at all in that petition. They're looking at privatising the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. Farming the work out to commercial companies. Of course that'll save money short term but long term, no chance. http://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/operations-and-support/royal-fleet-auxiliary/ The Navy have looked into manning our ships in the past but they cannot match our manning levels. Some operations have been successfully run commercially but they are just freight runs to the Falklands. Andrew Weir Shipping runs that. That allows us to free up platforms for more diverse use. Drug interdiction in the Caribbean. Mine clearing support in the Gulf. Disaster relief anywhere and of course making sure our Navy don't run out of fuel, food, bullets etc. We don't get a lot of publicity, the Navy makes sure of that, but any time you see an article featuring HMS we're usually in the background. Edit: More thanks to the folks who have signed.

AndyT
I remember sailing down to the Falklands on an RFA boat. Happy days!! Signed I was a third year docky at the time. The effort put in fitting out commercial vessels was massive. Had to give you guys every chance. Glad you made it through. We lost a lot of people down there. Thanks for the support everyone.
