duncz
My exhaust note has suddenly changed over the past couple of weeks. What was once a smooth, deep note has changed to a raspy, tin-can kind of noise with a bit of a rattle at certain revs. It's a '94 NA Automatic with HKS Silent system on it. If I put it in neutral and rev, it gets really raspy before 2k, then raspy again at 3k and just before it hits 2k there's a metallic rattling coming from the middle of the car. When I rev hard, it's noisier from the middle of the car than the rear and very raspy. Might be my imagination but it also seems like I'm down on power and up on fuel consumption, struggling for 230miles/tank at the mo. It was never much better but I can't remember getting
Gaz6002
It could well be the baffles in the exhaust. I've heard of many HKS systems losing baffling out of the exhaust. It looks a bit like spaghetti...
duncz
Just to add, the rattle is pretty bloody quiet. I can only hear it with windows both open or door open, but it's definitely there and very metallic-sounding. Cheers Gaz.
Abz
Have you check under car, does it sound like its blowing? Could be a small hole or maybe Cats rusted? Mine were pretty rusted when I did my last service so I replaced them.
gaz1
check the cat heat shields, they do tend to loosen up and rattle
