steve spedd
when you flushed the system how much coolant went back in mat? did you use Toyota 4life?
Guest SupraGTE
my heater pipes also blow of but that was because the Oe clamp was bad , take the termostat of and boil it in water to check it,
stevie_b
Blowing the heater pipes off? Crikey. I thought the radiator cap doubles up as a pressure safety valve that blows if the coolant pressure gets too much.
Guest SupraGTE
Or your waterpump, if it is with palstic wheel it can go in 2 halfs and then there is no ciculation, did you push it when it happened?

Scott
Blowing the heater pipes off? Crikey. I thought the radiator cap doubles up as a pressure safety valve that blows if the coolant pressure gets too much. Surely that would point to a faulty rad cap as well? catfish man
Surely that would point to a faulty rad cap as well? would a faulty thermostate cause this problem to happen? if it was not working and stuck in 1 potison:rolleyes:
Tricky-Ricky
would a faulty thermostate cause this problem to happen? if it was not working and stuck in 1 potison:rolleyes: If it was stuck closed, there would be no circulation, so overheating would occur, same as no water pump, however the rad cap should stop drastic overpressure, so i would also check that. Heater hose could just be down to a bad clip.
edge
When its up to temp check the bottom rad hose. If thats hot then you have probably got circulation. Have you just done a coolant change? Did you bleed all the air out? Buy a new rad cap aswel.
AndyT
Make sure it's an oem rad cap at 1.0 bar too. Higher pressure caps, 1.3 bar can cause failures too.
stevie_b
Just been thinking about the rad cap. The rad cap only blow if the rad sees too much pressure, and that probably won't happen unless the rad gets hot. The rad probably doesn't get hot until the thermostat opens up. If all of that is correct, then the rad cap might not be faulty after all. Does coolant flow around the heater matrix even if the 'stat is closed? The system will still pressurise in reverse and heat via convection, so the rad still sees pressure, even if the water in the rad is relatively cool. Chris Wilson
If the coolant system got hot enough to pressurise so much, and so fast that the cap couldn't keep up with steam production, and it blew the heater pipes off I'd say you will have done some damage to the engine itself Overheating = stop, not slow down to 60 MPH
