dangerous brain
If it was light when you got home & after a few hours it was time to go to sleep then you would have trouble getting kip because of the sunlight. One of my colleagues who works our nightshift for international support has blacked out windows in one of his rooms in his house which he calls "the dark room". I currently work a week of nights a week of days about and I can assure you its not the light that keeps me awake. Oddly with my eyes shut its just as dark whenever I close them. Noise however is another matter.
Fifty
Day here starts with sunrise at 0530 sets at exactly same time 1730. The night brings the forest creatures out en masse; its pretty spooky walking forest tracks with just a torch. This week I have seen Kinkajous, Ant eaters,Agoutis and a zillion frogs and bats:p I prefer the sun! but the answer is to move the uk to somewhere warmer; I feel its not the darkness but the cold miserable weather that is so crap. Rob
Its just not right getting out of bed and its pitch black outside at 7am, I have no problems with driving home at night in the dark, but I hate the mornings when its like that. Aye, I'd agree with that. Who said it was for the cows benefit? Get googling BST for the true reasons.
DODGYDODDS
i'd prefer it to be lighter in the eve. pita, trying to ride the horses and kayaking in the dark clambering up a river bank. Dark in the morning dont bother me.

Isnt it so we can enjoy the summers eves more, i also heard once it has an affect on rta's in the winter. It's nice to have longer days in the summer. But it would also be good to have that extra hour of light in the eve in the winter, but you can have it both ways i guess. pita, kayaking and riding the horses in the dark. Rob
Yes, to take advantage of the lighter evenings in summer which cuts energy costs quite a bit across the country. I recall the USA did it during WW2 as part of the war effort. The main point being it doesn't change in winter for any actual reason like road safety or farmwork, it just reverts back to GMT as the natural state. Mike
Here on in the South we have darkness, and then no seasons to tell us that time is moving on.... our autumn, winter and spring consists of 'cold, wet and windy' for six months.... and then summer What I would give for a bit of snow at some point just to show that's actually winter!? Southerns! oh, and they all talk the same. (sorry, is this the rant thread?)
