Need4Speed
I've got an error code 27 (Sub Heated Oxygen Sensor Signal) suggesting a short or open circuit. This started at the same time as I had the centre of the dash apart to change the CD player. Is there anything to do with immobiliser wiring that hooks into this circuit or any other aftermarket device. I'm guessing that a wire has been pulled somewhere in the back of the dash centre. The fault wasn't there when I removed the dash and it was there after I'd replaced it. Any ideas what might be causing this? I've checked for wiring problems at the ECM and it all looks fine. I was checking here as I'd had the footwell carpet out to remove some redundant wiring from a previous ICE system.
Chris Wilson
The second (sub...) O2 sensor connects under the passenger seat area, have you disturbed anything there, drilled through any wires, or removed anything that wasn't "redundant"? Need4Speed
Cheers Chris, that was my next place to look. I haven't drilled anything or pulled out any wires that weren't dead stereo stuff but I have had that area apart so I'm hoping to find a dislodged connector. I'll also chech continuity to the ECM. What I thought initially was a missfire now sounds like a carb engine with loads of choke. It's all making sense.
Need4Speed
After removing the passenger seat and carpet I thought I'd found the problem as the heated O2 sensor was not plugged in. That's because it's not there at all, just an empty socket! I guess it went in the bin when the second cat was removed and not replaced when the second cat went back in. Now I've got a permanent 27 error code and it's the only error code stored. I've still got a bad missfire. Anybody got any ideas what could cause this and not give an error code? I guess it's down to the old-fashioned stuff of looking at plugs.
Chris Wilson
A missing second sensor (only fitted to UK and US and European models) will flag that code, it may have had it a long time and not be connected to the problem. I would re fit a sensor though, myself.
