Nettielikescars
My supra has now been to MR T due to the knocking noise under neath, but nothing is leaking or appears to be worn. A MOT tester with a new MOT ramp (with the shaky bit on it) has also looked at it and said that it would pass the MOT, as nothing appears worn or loose. My local High performance garage has also checked the suspension with lever bars etc, and still can not find anything. Is it worth me changing the shocks and/or complete front strut with springs? Which if any one has got any UK spec ones i would be interested in them. This problem is starting to do my head in, as it sounds like something is going to fall off on bumpy roads and is driving back towards buying another Skyline. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nettielikescars
are you running coilovers? No, just standard J-Spec suspension.
Nettielikescars
Give us a clue as to where the knocking noise is coming from? Sounds like the drivers side front, to average person it sounds like the noise made by a shock or drop link or even a joint gone. But according to 3 people the drop links are all ok

Tricky-Ricky
Long shot, but i had this problem a few years ago, knocking noise only over bumps from the rear, it turned out to be a rear damper had lost its internal bump stop was causing it, worked fine though, only found out as i was changing the suspension anyway. Hi the noise is at the front o/s, the only way we can describe it, is a buffeting knock! Was thinking about changing front shocks hopefully to UK spec ones, but dont want to spend out if i dont need too. I noticed BOB B had some for sale, i contacted him but have had no response as yet. Meko
i had something similar happen, noise at low speed. The garage had it up on the ramps a few times checking for everything, nothing loose, worn, catching. Then he took the wheel off turned out that the the bolt (or something) on the valve had fallen off inside the tyre and was banging around inside it when the wheel rolled. Only found out what it was when took the wheel off and bounced it on the floor.
pistonbroke
Have the front subframe bolts been torqued recently? I believe it's meant to be a service schedule thing but not many actually do it.
dr_jekyll
take the wheels off in turn , and try it on a spare. a small flat spot on a tyre can cause all sorts of knoking and banging.

Yeah! i noticed that its the front:innocent: However if it helps you out i have a pair of used front shocks and springs that where OK when i took them off about two or three years ago, that are somewhat tatty, but if it will help in your process of elimination you're welcome to them. Abz
I recently had a knocking sound from the drivers side front wheel, I thought it was the driveshaft or something bad as it was a loud knock when you went over bumps in the road. After driving another 10 miles to get it to Garage Whiftblitz for its service the noise went away . They check and everything was fine, I just done 480 miles this weekend and a couple of times went to eye watering speeds with no issues. Have you noticed any difference in steering wheel feel? It might be a loose nut.

My hubby suggested that it might be an oval front tyre, but every one has ignored him!

I believe it's meant to be a service schedule thing but not many actually do it. Not as far as i know, as only had the car since September, its a bit hard to do when you haven't got a ramp. Wasn't very impressed with Mr T today, didn't give me much faith when he couldn't turn the front fogs off!

It might be a loose nut. We have checked all the wheel nuts, as a matter of course, the noise only goes away on smooth roads (which there arent many around here) Thanks for the advise, will be taking the wheels off to check for flat spots on tyres and also to see if it makes any difference. Thanks for the suggestion though.
Meko
Wasn't very impressed with Mr T today, didn't give me much faith when he couldn't turn the front fogs off! lol, that reminds me of when a friend of mine took his car to have an imobiliser fitted. The place phoned him and told him there was a problem with the engine as it started revving its bollocks off as soon as they turned the ignition on. He went down there, they started the car up, it started revving its tits off, he took the dash panels off the accelerator and the revving stopped. Homer
The first thing to check with knocking noises on front or rear is the subframe bolts. Nearly every garage will miss them unless they are specilists (that does NOT include Toyota!) It's very common. Edit - bah, way too slow! Would loose subframe bolts cause a noise to o/s front or to one location? Are UK TT Shocks and springs different to N/A ones?

Yes on both counts The UK shocks or springs shouldn't be used on an NA and vice versa.
