imi
On a 550bhp T67dbb I used to get 25-30mpg on low speed (less than 100mph) motorway cruise. Far better than the TT even. On WOT, it drank like a Finnish alcoholic. 8-10mpg on the road , about 4-5 mpg on the track. The larger the turbo the bigger the difference will be between off boost cruise and WOT. My T61 DBB gives me about 16-17mpg in the city of London - this is mostly normal driving with the occasional blast. Never more than 220-240 per tank. So it is thirstier than the BPU TT setup (that used to give me 19-20mpg for the same driving)
AndrewOW
So if you do go down the single route, will you be converting to a manual gearbox for those 500+ figures? If I was to go single, I would still want to stay auto initially (and to save money on that conversion), but a turbo (on low boost) that can produce higher power if I was to convert to manual at a later stage. All too expensive at the moment, though Edited November 10, 2009 by AndrewOW (see edit history)
Gaz6002
I did 20mpg on a very combined tankful last week. Some on boost, some motorway driving, some short journeys and lots of cold starts, and a little bit of sliding.
DARETT
I get around 25 mpg on the M-way cruising off boost, that is with 600+ On boost, just make sure there is over half a tank of fuel for any journey over 30 miles!

Oh stop it! Thanks A single auto should safely see around 480 without too many issues, if set up properly, of course. IIRC

So what your basically saying is for all of us to contribute to help stop global warming....... we've to all switch to big singles?? Don't see many people argueing with that
