Ian R
After just reading the Top gear thread that it may be broadcast in HD for the new series it got me thinking. HD is just not worth the money at the moment as every time I go to watch something in HD its not on for example new series of spooks started on BBC and you would expect it to be on HD as well but isn't Apart from sport what is there to watch in HD even F1 isn't available in HD yet
Jake
I agree. HD isn't worth the £10 a month extra. OK things that are in HD (Sky Sports and Sky Movies) do look better but it doesn't really add anything to my enjoyment of the programme. I don't care about Top Gear though, it's a rubbish programme. It used to be interesting when it was about cars but the last few years it's just awful.
RiceRocket
Apart from sport what is there to watch in HD even F1 isn't available in HD yet Practically all current US shows on Sky1, CH4 shows like True Blood but it doesn't provide subtitles , as for BBC's I can only recall watching on their HD channel- Damages, Michael McIntyre comedy show. They do the period dramas too I think if you're into that plus SCD, maybe the impending season of Heroes.
Jake
Why do you need subtitles ?
DekJZA80
I get it all for free so dont really mind about whats on HD or not....but in my view if i was paying for it, I'd defo say its worth the extra money for the sport, films & the discovery chan's are just amazing lookin. More and more programs/chan's are gettin added all the time, but i do get what u mean when u go onto a HD chan and the program u want to watch is not even in HD Dek. Got a staff offer half price for a year for all packages. But if I was having to pay, I wouldn't. I would expect BBC HD to Mirror BBC 1 but it doesn't. For example Four nations rugby is on BBC1 at the mo HD is Jimmys food factory FFS
RiceRocket
Why do you need subtitles ? I have a bilaterally impaired auditory range
Al Massey
Its because the BBC are a bunch of to**ers and just want your money from the tv licence. I hate the BBC and dont watch it so i dont have a problem paying for my HD and watching all my programmes in HD plus there is never anything good on the BBC anyway
Bobbeh
Costs nothing if you have a TV with inbuillt freesat or on cable. Plus Top Gear is on the BBC which is a free to air channel anyway. The F1 isnt in the hands of the BBC, it was the same issue even getting it into 16:
Pete
plus there is never anything good on the BBC anyway I enjoyed Master Chef, F1, Life on Mars, Little Britain, anything David Attenborough has done, Armstrong and Miller, Have I Got News for you, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, James Mays Toy Stories, Later With Jools Holland, Breakfast show...That's just recent stuff that springs to mind. The recent Micro Men one off was excellent. BBC World Service is great for news where ever I am in the world. Radio 4 is good, provides some fab comedy programmes. Then there's the iPlayer I use online, on my phone, on my cable connection, PS3 etc. Even if you don't like the content, you cannot deny how it's pushed the technology and others to follow suit. The license fee is worth every penny IMHO and if it were scrapped in favour for us to only pay for the programmes we watch, then I'm sure we'd miss out on some great shows and people that aren't given an opportunity. RiceRocket
The license fee is worth every penny IMHO but some people want the right of choice
Pete
but some people want the right of choice The "right"? I'm guessing you've not lived long enough to realise that we do not have much in the way of rights in the country, at least not your average Joe. You're not also under the illusion that there's such a thing as freedom of speech too are you? As far as enforced things go, I can live with the Beeb..there are more concerning things our government is doing which deserve our attention. Bobbeh
Mock the week is worth the license fee alone
