Spooky pc error - Laptops won't start

Strangest spookiest computer error.

Almost 2 years to the date of use my ex gf and I bought a laptop.

Here is the spooky thing, both stopped working almost 2 years dead on after their first use..

I bought mine 2 weeks before her. Mine fails almost exactly 2 weeks before hers does.

They both exhibit the exacxt same problem. Won't boot - no gateway (manufacturer logo) on boot, so no chance of getting to bios/windows etc..

Tried resitting memory, HD, battery and nowt. Just doesn't boot - almost seems like laptop is in sleep mode.

Any ideas? Tried Gateway - out of warranty and they don't seem to care unless I send them money.

Anyone have any idea? Long shot but thought I'd ask.

When you turn it on do the laptop lights come on and does the fan start spinning?

A lot of manufacturers use a splash screen, try pressing tab a bunch of times when it turns on as a general rule this hides the screen and shows standard bios messages.

I would try and remove the hard drive first before turning it on as thats where its first looking and so if it doesnt try to access the disk first you 'should' get an on screen message of no boot device found. Small step but hopefully it should show something, let us know if you get that far, any other info you have helps.

Phone Gateway or whoever you bought them off and tell them to get it sorted free of charge under warranty as stated in the Sale of Goods Act.

All goods should last as long as it's reasonably expected to - which is longer than 2 years for a laptop.
