ECU light and TRC light on - missfire

I've had the dash apart to change the CD player and everything was OK before I started. I got it all back together, thought "that's finished" then started the engine which now sounds like it has a maximum of 4 cylinders and the ECU light and TRC lights are on. I've searched for a similar post so sorry if this is old hat but it's a new one on me. What might I have disturbed?

After a bit of probing about behind the CD player, the warning lights go out but the misfire is still there. What are the two units above the CD player?

Any advice on a good engine diagnostic interface to connect to a PC anybody? I've seen a lot of ODB2 stuff but I think the Supra pre-dates this standard?
