Homer
2nd exhaust question of the evening When using a stock exhuast are the gaskets required to get a proper seal? I've only used firegum on but they are not sealing. I have no experience with the stock exhaust and the flanges look like they might need a gasket, can anyone confirm? Gambit
I take it your recating for the mot.... get new gaskets and tighten just enough to get a seal, then you can use them again.
Chris Wilson
Stock cats use a compressible metal O ring to seal. I have loads of them.
BOB B
Sorry to hyjack the thread a bit, but Chris do you have gaskets that go between 1st and 2nd de-cat pipes? I'm not sure on where the pipes came from. Bob.
Chris Wilson
I will have unless they are 3 inch bore pipes, I am out of stock of those, and they are very dear too. I have 2.5 pipe size bore ones in stock, e-mail me if you want more info. Thanks.

Homer
Sorry to bring this one back, but does anyone know of a cheap source of the stock gaskets & seals for a full stock system from the 1st cat back? Toyota want silly money for them.
Chris Wilson
I have good used O rings, and some new, early type OE gaskets. What exactly do you need?

Homer
Hopefully Chris is sorting me out on these, but just for future reference, they are all o-ring seals:
Terminator
Hopefully Chris is sorting me out on these, but just for future reference, they are all o-ring seals: You can have what I have here, not a set but most of it.

Homer
After a bit of messing about I ended up buying new ones (long story and I'm sorry to mess you about Chris It wasn't intentional) They appear to be compressible ones (see pic) as Chris had mentioned, but should exhuast gum paste be used with these? I couldn't find a reference to the exhaust fitment instructions in the service manual... TIA
Chris Wilson
If the seats in the manifold elbow recess or the cat recess are corroded, use paste, if they are perfect, fit dry.
Homer
If the seats in the manifold elbow recess or the cat recess are corroded, use paste, if they are perfect, fit dry. The cat recess's had only specs of corrosion but were in near mint condition (before I plastered them in paste the first time round, whoops!). I'll clear it all out and see how it looks. The cat back joints looked almost brand new. Thanks Chris
