AIR FILTER - K & N

motley

Recommended Posts

Took my car in today for a service.

I am told I need a K & N Air Filter for my car. I am told the one on it needs replacing as it is damaged. But I am also told the one I have on is the wrong size. Apparently I need to source it myself.

Help it came with the car. Any ideas were to get one from and what size I need?

Oooops car is a 95 N/A jap if that helps.

I am assuming the car already has a pod type airfilter on and it is this that is damaged?

If it was my car, I would buy a second hand standard Supra airbox, new stock paper filter from Toyota and fit this instead. The stock airbox will give you better filtration and probably slightly more power. Try posting in the wanted section to see if anyone has one.

Edit: added diagram of stock airbox parts.

Thanks for the reply Nic :)

I am off to the garage tomorrow to go over the work that needs doing!!! I will take a proper look and source the air filter after. Didn't actually realise until yesterday that it was a non standard air filter. DOH!!! I am told the one that is one give a few extra bhp.

I've just got a k+n panel filter today for the stock TT airbox, dunno if the n/a is the same or not. £56 from Larkspeed :)

Out of interest are you going to see the crue on tour this year ;) we are at the NEC, can't wait!

Don't believe everything you're told ;) pod filters will decrease power if anything, as they suck hot air from the engine bay. The stock filter box has 2 cold air feeds (which you can see on the diagram above) one from behind the headlight and one from centre duct in front bumper. Cold air = denser air = more oxygen = bigger bang = more hp :) Pod filters also have a fraction of the filtration area compared to a stock panel filter and are often poor at filtering small particles, which is not good for your engine.

When you go to the garage take some photos of the filter and post them up so we can see what is currently fitted to the car.
