erol_h
Ive currently got a 2004 vw transporter auto and the gearbox has started playing up. Whilst driving normally it slips out of gear revs start rising have no drive then suddenly it slips back into gear. Also when it changes up or down i get a thump from the gearbox sometimes its soo harsh it feels like some one nudged me from behind. If i floor it the gearbox works fine and also at motorway speeds its fine. Ive spoken to a gearbox specialist and he said its better of to replace it as usually the greabox casing will be damaged aswell. Has anyone else had issues with these as i wanted to get second opinion before i went ahead with gearbox change thanks.
Kirk
solenoids possibly busted I had a similiar problem with a customers corsa and it turned out to be them busted and lack of gearbox oil.
absz
Its not the gearbox but the dual mass flywheel on these that fail. will cause clutch slip problems. IF the flywheel lets go it can damage the bell-housing. SORRY IGNORE ME THOUGHT IT WAS A MANUALLY ^^^
absz
Right lets start again:) there is a solenoid in the gearbox (brake solenoid) that normally fails causing these symtoms. but more common is the wiring to the solenoids inside the box. with gearbox centres they will qoute you for a recon box which normally is a safer way than striping the box and something else going wrong at a later date. erol_h
They told me that its better to buy a new gearbox from vw instead of a recon box. Does anyone know a good gearbox specialist that can give me a second opinion.
absz
might be too far for you but this is the company i have used before. they charge £38+vat for a plug in gearbox diagnostic check. http://www.automaticgearbox.biz/
