Duffman
Computer has been running very slow so was going to use the System Recovery (F10) function on my computer. Basically I thought it would give me a promt asking if I was sure I wanted to do a system recovery and it didn't, which in turn has put the computer back to when it was first bought...deleting EVERYTHING! Is there anyway I can get this back especially my ITunes? Have been looking on the net all morning but haven't had much luck. Any helf much appreciated. Note my operating system is Windows XP & it's a Compaq Presario
cheekymonkey
I'm afraid your data is most likely gone. System recovery does a reformat of the partitions which is not trivial to recover from. There are tools which can scan the raw hard drive and recover important documents but I don't think they are particularly user friendly for a non-techical (just guessing!) person. Hope you have backups of your really important stuff!
JustGav
Try use a product like getdataback, you will amazed how much it can recover.
Abz
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this is not good at all. Depends how important these files are to you. There are software which can get data back from formatted disks as the format kind of overlays the original data. Recovery software can be expensive. Here is one I think you can try before you buy, but have no idea how good it is: http://www.recovermyfiles.com/ You could try contacting DamanC on here who runs a business in computing but not sure if he does data recovery? stevie_b
What the others have said ^ Also, if you do want to try and recover your data, don't use the PC for anything. Continued use will make it even harder to recover data.

DamanC
Yup, we do data recovery. If you haven't installed much to the new "recovery" we should be able to recover a good 90% of your data. PM me if you are interested. Abz - we need to sort you some commission out

Duffman
Got it all back by slowly sieving through documents & settings and copying all data I thought I had lost
cheekymonkey
So it didn't actually delete everything? That's good
