Supra_Al
With my N/A, when accelerating hard especially 1st & 2nd gear,i get good smooth power up to about 5000rpm, then i get a stronger surge:eek: bit like a power band? Is this what it is...does any other owner get this?.......just curious that's all. Al.
Syed Shah
Yes, i do. The NA seems to make some decent power high up in the rev range, mine also has a nice sweet spot around 4000-4500rpm.
Supra Pilot
shhhhhhhhh, thats when the hidden Turbo's kick in! Keep it down, don't want the TT guys to know about them.
Bobbeh
Sounds a bit like VVTi technology.
Digsy
Yep, mine does the same.

Flipfinger
And mine. It's luvverly. Another good reason to rag the tits off it.
Druid
It's probably not VVTi - this kicks in higher in the powerband, above 6000 rpm iirc. I have the same feeling around 4500ish rpm in my celica, when it reaches its peak torque.
Flipfinger
Don't think the originals had VVTi, mine is a 93......

Supra Pilot
This is the system that most Celicas use......"VVT" From reading the attachment above(couldn't get it on one page, sorry), you will see the difference in the VVT and the new VVTi and the latest VVTlI. Read last paragraph in the attachment. The new set up is very similar to the Honda V-TEC. If you wish I will try to get that one explained as well....... Comments? Druid
So, the old VVT system is what Toyota used to call 'TVIS'? (Which is used in my celica, 4rd gen 3S-GE block).

efc
Mine too. It accelerates smoothly and then around 4000 + revs it pushes on hard and then again past 5000 - lovely Has anyone taken it upto 7000 revs yet. Not had the bottle yet as I dont want to damage it (coming upto 60k and needs timing belt changing).

I tried asking if it was you I keep passing on Cricklade Road (black mkiv, always flashes(lights that is!)/waves) in another thread, but I guess you didn't see it. Think we worked out there are at least 6-7 mkivs in Swindon! Getting common as muck...
Rob
Power is just tailing off at 7500rpm, then it bounces off the limiter, although I am generally not looking at the counter at this point. Very true about the 4000rpm power band, get it wrong though, like leaving a roundabout in third and you'll be looking at the backside of a Vectra 2.5V6. ...and Mr Short Sleeves will be telling his area manager how he "opened a big can of whuppass" on a Supra.
