MarkR
Hi chaps, I need some help with my alternator please. It's not charging. The mechanic has had my alternator off, and put another one on that he knows works, and it's still not getting the charge light. He put the standard ECU back on (just to try put back anything that's changed) and again no light. He even tried a different bulb in case the bulb was blown and no luck. What are the steps in troubleshooting an alternator? What else can affect the charging? TIA Mark
hadyn
I might sound a little thick here, but have you tried changing the battery?

GreaseMonkey
I know it might sound simple, but have you checked the main Fuses under the Bonnet for large amperage stuff like the Alternator?. Just a thought?.
Guest argy911
Could be a broken wire or bad conection .Do a drop volt test+ Check for continuity.
absz
you need to check the wires at the back of the alternator to make sure one is not broken in the connector plug. also the wire that feeds the bulb goes through a connector plug on the passenger side footwell were the ecu loom comes into the cab. its either a orange plug or white, cannot remember. make sure the connector plugs are locked tight. MarkR
Quick update. The battery and alternator were fine. We ran a wire to an external bulb and it charges so it looks like a loose wire or loose earth running to the bulb internally. Wayne did this before reading this thread but spot on Absz. Nice call dude.
