catfish man
hi im only getting cold air blowing into the car i have touched the h pipe that runs into the matrix and both pipes are hot?? does this mean my matrix is working or is it the control in side the car stopping the warm air getting through:search:
Scott
Sounds like your matrix is fine, as long as its the right pipes you are checking. Sounds like the director thingy is not doing its job.

dude
You don't need to remove the glovebox dude, just lie on your back in the footwell and look up you will see the rod and flap, turn the ignition on and alter the temp and it should all be moving. dude
what do i do if it is not moving:rolleyes: Stay cold or fix it !!!!!! you will need to start investigating why, easiest thing would be to plug some controls in that are known to be good and see what happens then. Why is it not moving then??????

pbryant_knight
I have the exact same problem with mine. been quoted £700 to a grand to fix it. If you get it working please PM me to tell me what you did Peter
Guest Winterlolli
Guys, had the same problem with mine just recently, took the hoses off a the top of the engine bay where the matrix connects to, blew it through, was advised to put some mr muscle down there to clear blockage. Flushed through 3 times after, should of seen the crap that come out if it. All working now. If you do have to get a matrix have a search for cheap heater matrix and you should find one for £160 ish. catfish man
had no time to try and get it working i will try during the week and let you know the out come also on ebay they are selling new heater matrix for £64 if it comes to that
pbryant_knight
To be honest, the price of the Matrix isn't the issue, it's fitting it. There's a link on the forum for a matrix for £50 - £60 but to get it in you have to take the whole dash apart and apparetly its a complete nightmare. That's why i have been quoted stupid prices Peter
mrgee2jz
Hi guys, I have the bloody same problem as catfish man already knows!!! I'm going to try flushing the crap out of mine today. And if it doesn't work I'll be tearing up the dash board big time! Took the dash off the car I'm braking and that was hard enough, it's really brittle and you can brake it in seconds I your not carefull, after that's all off then you have all the bars inplace and after that you have the matrix! I'm not sure of you can replace the matrix without getingthe whole thing apart. Any links to a guide???
Terminator
If it is the matrix I would do what ever you can to back flush it, as replacing it is a whole dash out job and a total PITA. Jezz put this up awhile ago heater matrix swap Edited November 1, 2009 by Terminator (see edit history)
pbryant_knight
That guide makes it look even more complex. Arghhhhhh. Pipes and wires and plugs and cables EVERYWHERE!! Looks like i'm gonna have to go back to the fire in the footwell idea. Peter

Terminator
As a matter of interest, which Mr Muscle product did you use?
broomie
i wouldnt see this as a long term fix especially as you now have (diluted) mr muscle in your cooling system!
Terminator
As long as all traces of Mr Muscle are flushed out there should be no long term consequences.
mrgee2jz
I flushed the crap put of it. Nothing left in there now
qwarrior
I've been putting a heater matrix swop off because it's a pain. Started it in the summer but got sick of not driving th car so just put it back together. I have the matrix bypassed in the engine bay at the moment, if I reconnect it ti will wee all over my nicely dried out carpets. Don't think the matrix is damaged, just rubber fatigue on the pipes inside the bulkhead cos when I first bought it the pipes on the engine bay side burst creating the biggest cloud of steam I've seen in my life in the middle of the A1. I think it had been standing for a long time without being run, there were cobwebs in the Fan... says something for the guy I bought it off.
