Alex
Justin, I've been talking to a friend of mine and he's seriously interested in getting a good VFM complete ECU replacement for his 200SX. I did a bit of thinking and remembered that you've just finished fitting an Autronic ECU to Ryan's (Registered Nutter) Supra...well the completion date was the 21st of October and I haven't heard anything to the contrary. Ryan must be in heaven at the moment with all that power to play with!!! Ryan’s Car Thread So, I need some more information…I did ask Terry about his Autronic’s…but I guess he’s still doing dohnuts the size of the grin that’s plastered across his face so I haven’t heard back… Was the loom made to order or did Autronics have a Supra one that was adapted to suite the needs of Ryan’s car? My mate is going to be running a T-57 on a SR20DET engine, would that reduce the cost or is the price of the loom, fitting of the ECU and configuration of it all 1 price? And not dependant on the no. of cylinders and Turbo's you have!!?? Did you try out the Autotune option that you can get from Autronics? It claims to make it a lot easier to setup but I'm a bit sceptical it might also be a waste of money as once you've set it up you don't need it again....hmmm....unless you've bought one to use on all future Autronic ECU setup's. I assume that now you've done one you'll be hoping to shift a few...no point learning how to do this sh$t if you ain't gunna make some profit out of it!!! Which version of the Autronic ECU did you use? The SMC or SM2 (well they are the only 2 on the web site!)? The SM2 looks like a real piece of work Though the 512 point fuel and ignition map sounds a bit daunting! Can you use multiple EGT gauges? We were thinking of putting them on cylinder 1 and 4 as if the, like the 2JZ, the rear most cylinder runs slightly hotter then the 2nd and 3rd should be somewhere in between the other two assuming its all bolted together correctly!...Guess we could put a third in just before the turbo to really make sure there were no major problems. Is it physically the same size or smaller than the Supra's ECU? Did you use their built in 4bar (50psi) sensor or is the stock one still in place? Can it use a MAF sensor? They are the standard fitment for a 200SX. I guess the most important question bar the price is how long would it take from start to end? From ordering the ECU to it arriving? From measuring up for a loom and getting it fitted? Hooking the whole lot up and configuring it? Assume it takes a couple of weeks to get here from Oz, a couple of days to make a loom and then another couple of days to fit it all....then 2 days to a week of configuration and bug fixing. Does that sound feasible? How long would the car be required for? The guy in question only has this one car so it can't be laid up for too long... I think I read on the site that it can be connected to the MoTeC Display system...can it also be connected to the MoTeC Pocket Wideband Lambda sensor??? Or would you not recommend this unit for a 4 cylinder engine? What do the Mitsi's and Evo's use?? What else does the guy need to consider? I don't mean the other bits of the engine like up rated rad/IC/WI Forged pistons etc...I mean specifically the ECU and sensors. What problems did you have with Ryan's car...I know the crank sensor 'caused a problem...or was it just loose! Does the ABS still work? Does all the air-con and that stay unaffected? Do you still have speed dependant power steering? How many maps can you have loaded? Ie can you have a race map on a laptop and just download it when using race gas? And then re-load the normal map for Optimax etc? Or can it hold both (or maps) on board and you just use a laptop to switch between the two? Do you have disconnect the battery and then reconnect it for the change in map to take effect or does it do it on the fly? Hmmm better stop there....could waffle on all day. To summarise : Could you fit the Autronics to a big single equipped 200SX? If you can, how much? And how long would it take? And what other stuff does my mate need to know? Cheers Sorry for the non-Supra specific nature of the thread but then its about standalone ECU's so I thought it might be of use to the BBS…. Ian D
Registered Nutter, Any news on the fire breather?" Hi there, Ian here from the SXOC club...we were discussing you new monster of a motor on Sunday at the SXOC Top Speed Challenge and wondered if it was ready yet? Looking forward to seeing those dyno sheets!!! Have you had a power run yet? Are you planning on taking it to a show...I'd love to take a gander at the car as it sounds like you've invested loads into it. Hope it has lived up to you expectations!! = Come on post the details!!! Or are you unable to as it snapped your neck when you first planted the throttle. Guest Terry S
Alex I'll PM you if you are in a rush. Thunder. I'll give Justin a week to sort himself out. If he still doesn't reply I'll post. Leon is selling, installing & mapping these though.
Guest Terry S
I see from the number of posts B1sep has made today that Justin has been trauling the BBS, so you should have an answer soon.
Guest Terry S
Still nothing from Justin or TorqueIC so here goes Alex: Dependant on the level of Autronic you go for then certain sensors can be retained. I doubt it would be any cheaper to install on a 4 cyl ( is that right?). Being a 4 cylinder though, you could use the SMC unit happily. I did autotune & it works well. You have to choose the right firmware option to be able to use it. You also need access to the Autronic Exhaust Gas Analyser ( I have one) & a decent wideband o2 sensor ( the faster the better). I have the SM2 ECU. The SMC is a bit restricted for outputs on a Supra. I am sure TorqueIC were using the SMC though. Leon has a PnP loom for a Manual Supra to SM2. No it can't use multiple EGT or Wideband sensors. I too want to do this. An 8 channel datalogger would be easiest with K probes. It fits within the Stock ECU cover after some modification. I did use the internal 4 bar MAP sensor. It will not support MAF. Cost, you need to speak to Leon. My ABS still works, & the Supra has a stand alone AC ecu! Couldn't say for a Nissan. Other componets depend on the level of tune you are looking at! I have 3 different maps, so yes you can select different fuels easily. Alex
Muchly appreciated Terry. The Haltch E6K and forth coming E11 could also be an option as the tuning house GT-ART are an aproved fitter (it would make most sense to go to them as they are GTR/Nissan focused. Did you look at the haltech? Could you voice any particular reason behind not going for it, and picking the Autronic? Or was it a case that Leon wanted to go for the Autronic so you were happy to guinea pig for him?? The E6K retails for about £1175+vat from GT-ART and comes with software which is more graphical drag and drop than fiddling with numbers. Is this how the Autronic ECU software works or is it the more complicated number crunching type? At the end of the day the end user needs to be able to understand it enough to make his own fine adjustments.... Cheers
Guest Terry S
Alex I chose the SM2 after much research. The software is the number crunching type, but once you understand the values it's not too bad. I did think about the Haltech, but someone who know MUCH more about ecu's than I'll ever know told me they were a division down from the Autronic/Motec of this world. I am sure they still do the job though. I only wanted to do it once, so went for what I believed was the best option at the time.
Alex
Might be worth waiting for the E11 to emerge and see how good it is against the Autronic's/Motec's.... Cheers
paulrenn
Just a word about Haltech, I know several people over the last couple of years who have had quality issues with the hardware, and support was very hard to get from the suppliers. One went to Autronic instead and was very pleased.
