this breakthrough will change electronics

Now that's a breakthrough! I wonder about the possiblity of piracy... surely this will make it easy to copy chipsets? Or am I well off the mark? I'm no computer expert.

Im nto sure either, but im sure piracy would be more of a problem, as people would simply take a PCB board, copy its schema as such and put it on the net.

download that, get the right chip...load the firmware on to it (from net) done.

Im not too hot in this area but even i can tell could change things drastically...no more forgotten items in shopping trolley, walk past scanner get to card reader put in card, pay and leave...no more till people either.

Erm, most high PCB's are multi layer, so I don't think they would be worried too much :)

Wouldn't matter too much, just print the layers out separately and link them where they would normally be linked with a via/through plate hole.

How would you mount components to it anyway? Can you solder to it? I cant see it being very useful for anything other than prototyping and playing around at home with fairly simple circuits. They also probably wouldn't carry much current.

I don't think it would be very useful to those looking to copy electronic circuits. You'd still need to get hold of any ICs used: easy if it's something you can pick up from Maplin or RS, but if it's bespoke it would scupper you.

You can either solder ICs directly to the circuit if you're very good with a soldering iron, or solder an IC holder to the circuit and simply push the IC into it. More basic components tend to get soldered directly.

Edit: I think I misunderstood your question. My answer is "Don't know". :D
