ady_supra
Hello all I'm new to this site and hoping to buy a manual non turbo import Supra very soon subject to work arrangements. However i have a major problem regarding insurance as i can't seem to get quoted anything below £1700 fully comp and have tried all the major companies including those that insure Japanese imports such as Sky insurance who quoted me £2900 I feel that this quote is very unfair judging from the following points:- 31 years old 8 years no claims bonus 0 points on license No accidents Car will have Cat 1 security. However the bad points are:- Live in a very high risk postcode which is Bradford (BD) and is classed as excluded. Car will be kept on road as have no garage or driveway. I feel getting quoted a minimum of £1800 is still very unfair as i'm sure that the worst postcode owner could be charged double that compared to a good postcode. I've also generally found keeping your car in a garage or driveway only reduces the quote by around 5%. I had the same problem with my previous Japanese import (Toyota Starlet Glanza V turbo) but managed to find a specialist company that could insure me, but that was because it was only 135bhp and a 1.3 litre car yet it was a turbo. I've already contacted them and they won't let me insure anything over 200bhp, yet i only want to be insured on a non turbo Supra. Anyway sorry for my first post insurance rant, but hoping somebody can help me out and filfil my goal of owning a Supra. I may even reward the person who could recommend me a company that could insure me for under £1000 fully comp a £10 Halfords gift voucher. Looking forward to your suggestions. Many thanks
TRACIE_LOU
Perhaps a list of all you have tried would help as otherwise you will be inundated with trying companies you may all ready called:d It does seem awfully expensive given your age and no claims etc.. especially if that just seems to be because of the area you live:search:
ellis
NAs are 220bhp mate, turbos 326bhp. Bad news by the sounds of it.
Neil-NA
No easy way to do it buddy, you gota pick up the phone and ring round. Does seem very steep that price though, have you tried the usual aplan, adrian flux etc?
caseys
Try A-Plan Thatcham branch A-Plan Insurance Chapel Court Thatcham Berks RG18 4QL Telephone 01635 874 646 Could see if a tracker lowers prices? And also state you're a club member (if you have joined) can help. EDIT : BTW I suggested this branch specifically because they get all the unusual cases and deal with the brokers generally that insure this kind of vehicle. Ringing up A-Plan in general or another branch may not give you the cheapest price A-Plan can give. Can you tell I like A-Plan? Animal
You could always get your car on the dyno - my old N/A motor was down to 184bhp, then ring your old insurer up and say "Look - it's under 200bhp, insure me"

The Raven
Ring bell, they will insure it cheaply. Or move
Branners
Get a quote on a UK spec and see what comes back. The big companies really dont like imports, but will insure a UK spec much easier.
ady_supra
Ring bell, they will insure it cheaply. Or move Hi mate Bell were the ones that quoted me £1800 which was the cheapest quote i've had so far. That doesn't include protected NCB so its likely that it will go up by another £

ady_supra
I just feel like i'm being discriminated against as some people with similar age, no claims bonus etc, but on a different postcode are paying under £700 on modified twin turbo Supras. Hi mate Just did an online quote with them and it came out with £2164.02 and that is a UK spec Supra with no modifications. Import would probs taken it near the £3000 mark, shocking

A UK spec NA!?! the UK spec will be more expensive as your requesting a quote for a TT

The insurers have obviously got your postcode as a high risk area so they dont want your business hence the very high quotes. I'd move or register the car elsewhere if that can be done legally ofcourse
