Ian W
Was there ever a supraowners snowboarding holiday ever organised? It was organised and executed in January, mate. Four of us went to Val Thorens for a week. Very good week, just wouldn't be driving it next time
Charlotte
There is a big snow boarding/indoor skiing place called xscape just down the road from us. So, really, it could be snowboarding season all year round. My dad told me at the weekend he might be moving back to Switzerland which I'd love, lovely skiing trips and somewhere to stay! AlexM
I would be excited, but I haven't learnt how to ski or snowboard yet.. Is it worth going to an indoor ski slope to learn, or is that a completely different experience?
bigbloodyturbo
I'll be going to glenshee for some boarding as I only live less than an hour away, cover is usually pretty good but it can get patchy to say the least;)

Excellent. My brother has just started working over there too. He's working out what the drive is from his place to the slopes but I'm sure it'll be closer than here. Result! You'll know pretty quick if you're the kind of person who has the perseverance for it - takes years to get any good, especially when you only go for 2 weeks at a time. I'd love to spend a whole season somewhere nice.

MarkR
I've booked up in January for 2 weeks at Whistler! Can't wait. If anyone wants some excellent condition 2nd hand board/bindings clothing etc, to learn with, I'm getting rid of a few of my extras as I have too many. Drop me a PM
EdMorris
So Jackson was great then, excellent. Not sure if t would be worth the trek to get there. I went to Whistler a few years back - superb. Its gonna be even better now due to lots of investment for the Olympics. You'll love it. Have a beer and a munch in the Long Bar at base, lovely ladies as I recall. It is a bit of a trek to get there but well worth it. Are you staying at the base of the mountain or in the town? Town is a trek as there is a bus, and the nightlife is pretty dire, but the slopes and snow are awesome!! I've been to Whistler twice before, so this'll be my 5th and 6th week there. I love it. One of my favourite resorts as it has the best of all worlds. Short transfer, great nightlife, great slopes, friendly people, good accommodation. A really good all rounder. EdMorris
And there's me telling you where to eat and drink. We're staying at the Cowboy Village (yee-har!), which is a 20 min bus ride, so I'm assuming its in the town. All night life in American ski resorts is pretty dire compared to Europe but the boarding is truly awesome, and at my age thats the bit I go for. Quiet'ish but not bad overall. The bus ride is a pain in the butt, but it's very reliable. There's a legendary burger place that I forget the name of. I'll see if it's in the pics. We managed to befriend some Americans that live in Jackson and they invited us to their house for a night of Texas Holdem. Awesome! Although the night ended with them showing us their guns as they thought we'd appreciate it.... Wished I hadn't beaten them at that point

edd_t
hey guys, need a bit of help on the snowboarding thing I've been a couple of times now, to the Alps, xscape and stuff. And feel like i have enough of a bug for it to buy my own board and bindings etc. Am looking around but no where i can find says 'this is good for someone just starting out who wants some fun', I have Burton's 'The Good Book' and its doesnt help. Where should I be looking for my first board? I really just want to stick to nice runs at the moment, no off piste or jumps and stuff. Cheers, Edd... MarkR
Edd, get something fairly flexible and soft as it'll turn more easily. The stiffer boots/bindings/boards are more for huge powder days and freeriding which, to be honest you don't get often enough on piste to justify getting. I'd go for a softish board, middle of the road boots and bindings in terms of stiffness. Most places rated them from 1-10 with 1 being soft and 10 being stiff. Get a 4-6 board/boots/bindings. Bindings: don't waste your money on the high end ones, as they're usually made from metals etc that are expensive but also really stiffen things up. Any small twitch and you're off in a different direction. The softer cheaper plastic ones are great all the way through intermediate level and are more forgiving. They're also lighter. Boots: Go for something with a dual lacing system so you can customise the tightness on your foot separately from your calf. Try a few on as different manufacturers are better for different feet. Some cater better for wider feet etc. One final thing. Unless you're a really good rider and pushing the equipment to the limits, you don't notice much difference in the cheaper stuff to the expensive stuff from brand names companies.
