Guest FKADizzmystar
Just wondering is there an Aftermarket ECU that replaces the Stock Auto ECU without any piggy backing. Because the guy I'm getting my car done by said that the only way you can put a new ECU in an Auto Supra is to piggy back it off the Stock one, so the Stock ECU would be controlling the auto gearbox and the Aftermarket ECU would be controlling the Engine, thus costing lots of money with wiring and labor and tuning e.c.t and I was wondering if there was an Aftermarket ECU out there that you could just replace the stock Auto ECU with, just like you would with the manual Supra, with out piggy backing. Cheers

AlexM
You want the stock ECU to control the Autobox. Talk to Ryan.G about it.
Branners
I heard the aem ecu is a bit cr@p on the autos?? They may have sorted the autobox problems, but there is certainly a history of it being very unkind to an auto and is generally felt best to be avoided. Miguel
This was the answer given by JR from AEM concerning the GenII AEM with an auto. Significantly better. The user will finally be able to make meaningful adjustments of shift firmness and the lockup will finally work right. An admission that the GenI was actually flawed after all? L33
i was told the greddy emanage ultimate piggy back was by far the best for auto. not quite sure why you think it will cost loads extra to wire ect?

Tannhauser
There has been a few snags in the past,my AEM is controlling my auto box and it shifts just as smooth if not better than my stock ecu.Mapped by Ryan. Maybe things have improved with the new AEM, but my experience of running it with the auto was frustrating and expensive. I went through either two or three auto boxes - I forget. If Ryan got yours to work well, that's excellent. Maybe if he had worked on mine as an auto, it would have been a different story. It shows what a difference the quality of the mapping makes. To the OP: if the mappers you are intending to use to are saying that they would have difficulty using the AEM to control the auto, then listen to them. If you find a mapper who claims he can map an auto on AEM, ask to talk to other auto owners whose cars he has mapped. The two guys who mapped mine - badly as far as the auto control is concerned - both breezily claimed that mapping an auto would be no problem for them. paul mac
As a dedicated auto user i really cant see why you would want to control the box via an aftermarket ecu, the stock ecu will have had months and months of continuous mapping to get every possible throttle position, rev, load, gear change configuration spot on and lets be honest Toyota did a pretty good job with what is acknowledged as one of the best auto box ecu combinations you can get, if you really feel you need the features of a standalone i would still run it as a piggy back and let the stock ecu do what it does best and worry about the auto box and climate control etc. Your other option would be to go manual . The other issue i have is you are allways capped on the power to around 500hp stock box or high 500's on a built box and this is well within emanage ultimate territory, as for reliability of the emanage dont forget a while back this forum had to issue a statement telling people to STFU questioning the AEM relibility as legal action was being talked about
