Which Oil Filter....?

Hi peeps,

Sorry to ask a dumb question, but I did a search and couldn't find anything specific to what I wanted to know. I'm changing the oil on my car to Silkolene Pro S 10w50 from Opie but I have a question about the oil filter.

Mine Supra a 1996 JDM spec 2JZ-GTE, so when I try and order a filter online, I've only found ones for UK spec 93-96. I've also found 2 different kinds from the same place...

Can someone please help me out as to which one to get? Or if these are the wrong kind, point me in the right direction. Thanks very much and sorry for the stupid question.

James

They may have used to but now with the large numbers of imports they see it as yet another way to rip us off with parts charges.

Personally I use a TRD filter, same filtration but better flow.

I got mine from Envy but you can get them from Whifbitz too I'm sure as well as any Jap performance company (ie in Japan like http://www.takakaira.co.jp/ )

I've been using them for years. About £8 each.

Sump washer

me to , IMHO this is, or the stock filter, the only filter you should use, sit them side by side with other well known brands of filters and you will see the difference in quality, quote the above part number and any Toyota dealer can get them

I bought an oil filter for my crappo commuter car (the one and only oil change it ever got) and I was shocked, shocked I say, to find it had no cellophane seal across it, and felt like a coke can in construction. It's the first non-Supra oil filter I've handled in 10 years so I'd built up a certain expectation of quality I suppose :D

It amazes me that with such a high quality filter for £8, and genuine parts as well, people still ask if "this one off ebay is any good, only it's £5 so well cheaper" :)

  • 2 months later...

Sorry to resurrect this but I have a "newb question" as I have never changed oil..

When doing an oil change do I replace the filter? Its a 94 Jspec N/A.

IanC quoted these part numbers:

Lexus oil filter

90915-20004

Sump washer

90430-12031

The sump washer - going to get that as I assume its also wise to replace this part. Is that filter fine for the N/A?

I have a feeling the answer to both of these is "yes, change them" but id rather double check ;)

Thanks!

I not 100% sure but when I had my service at Garage WhiftBlitz I think Paul put on a K&N Oil Filter?

I didn't even know they did oil filters, only air filters. Unless what I saw was an fuel filter.

Yep, it was a K&N oil filter, again with K&N quality one of the best filters around and way cheaper than any Jap offerings. £9.68 + VAT, we use them on all our race cars.
