Compression Woes

Hey all,

I was changing my plugs today and I had the guy who was helping me

check the engine compression. Moderately warm engine. I was shocked

by the results.

1 - 160

2 - 160

3 - 85

4 - 120

5 - 75

6 - 175

He was very surprised as well. The car is running strong. No smoke

at idle and at full throttle. Occasional small puff of smoke on

startup and when idling at the lights for a while and taking off

(but only when engine warmed up and I thought most likely due to oil

leaking from turbo seals). No excessive oil consumption. No

excessive water consumption or overheating.

Possibilities

Piston ~ possible, but I would have though that it should smoke a

lot more especially at idle

Valve assembly ~ that is possible. After changing to the US inlet

cam the valve clearances may not be that great.

Also to note is that there isn't any significant blow-by as I have a

catch can and I check it regularly.

Oh. A few more things.

Adding oil into the chamber didn't change the compression

significantly which whould tell me that if the rings were that bad

then I should be smoking like nothing else.

The compression was repeatable.

? stuck valve ?

Any ideas fellows. This is the last thing I wanted to happen.

Cheers

Andrei
