leonardjon
Well, I'm taking the Supra off the road for the winter soon and following the boost issue I had previously, I had the guys at Garage 786 take a look at things. All vaccuum lines seemed to be in place, no split hoses etc, BOV ok, accessable actuators and VSVs all ok. The only thing that couldn't be tested was the boost controller solenoid as there wasn't a replacement to hand to swap test! Ash reckoned that this was very unlikely to be at fault though. The next step was going to be taking the turbos out and checking the rest of the system and I didn't fancy going through the work 'only' to end up at BPU still.... So, that in mind, started looking at going single, not right now but at some point next year hopefully - just planning out what the best route to go is. Done a lot of reading on the forum and other places. So far, I've been looking at the T67 based kits from PHR and BL (not sure on DBB or non DBB). Also looked at the HKS T04Z but that seems pretty expensive for the same sort of thing? I'll be looking to upgrade the fuel system (rail, afr, injectors 720 or 850cc? fpr, filter, dual pumps etc), and was again looking at the PHR and BL kits. Other bits I am not sure about are: Oil Cooler +Relocation?? Required?? Clutch - Recommendations?? Gauges (EGT, AFR, Boost, Oil Pressure) Defi?? EMS - AEM ?? Mapping ?? MAP Sensor ?? Cams -Required?? Just need some opinions on the above kit - is it all required, what's good, what's not! Is there anything else that I need that I have missed? Am I going about things the right way? lol Going by the rest of the current spec as in my Garage, would a range of 550-650bhp be sensible/achievable on this sort of setup? I'd like to have a sort of low and high setting through the boost controller bearing in mind that the car would be used on the road, semi-regularly during the better weather months! Wow, thats a lot of questions! Thanks in advance though
Jake
Seems a shame to do this to a UK TT6. ----- TBH mate, I think you've asked too many questions to realistically get answered in a single thread. It'll be all over the place and hard to follow by the time everyone has chipped in with their opinion. ----- How much of this gear will you be fitting yourself? If none, who will be fitting it for you? ----- Fuelling: I wouldn't go mad upgrading the fuelling. Stock lines, stock FPR, FPD, stock rail, single uprated fuel pump (Bosch or Walbro are the usual favourites) and some good quality 650cc/800cc drop in injectors - that should about do it. All IMO of course. ----- ECU and mapping. Choose a good mapper carefully. He'll be the best one to advise on which ECU would be best for you. As your car is a manual you have a wide choice of decent ECUs. -----
leonardjon
Thats the kind of feedback I'm after! I know its a lot of questions, just figured a single thread would keep it all in one place but I see your point Hmm yes I did wonder if it would be the right thing to do on a UK, are there many other UK singles around? Is the stock fuel side of things ok at that level - looking around, a lot of people change things like rails, fpr etc. As for fitting, it depends - I haven't thought that far ahead - (recommendations?) - I can do most of the electrical stuff (gauges etc) but one question I did have was that if I fitted the fuel system side of things, is the car still drivable on the stock ECU? T2 MSW
As Jake has already said, firstly choose your mapper as this is the most important part. Its expensive though and I also would not do this to a UK TT6 it would be cheaper to buy a car that has already had all the work done. If you do decide to go down the route of single with this car then I would advise going out with a few members with different setups to find what suits your need. I would also speak to Paul Whiffin about his turbo kit as cost wise its comparable with the BL (sort of PHR) kits and IMO better quality. Manifold also comes with a guarantee
Luxluc
I run a PHR stage 1 kit on my euro-spec Supra. - I will fit a bigger rad, 25 row engine oil cooler and 16 row power steering cooler over winter. I don't go for a relocation kit, as I don't think it'll be necessary. - I run a RPS max street clutch with RPS lightened flywheel (flywheel is a bit noisy at low revs, but matter of taste ... as my Supra is no daily driver, I can live with that) - 1 have SPA dual gauges (oil temp, oil press, water temp, fuel press, EGT), as I don't like too many gauges around in the car. Boost is indicated on boost controller. - I have a AEM EMS. But as said, choose your stand alone EMS after having spoken with your mapper. - I have a 3.5 bar map sensor - I run stock cams to have minimum lag. Wilder cams will increase lag, but will give you more hp at the high rpm range. So it's a matter of usage of your car.
