Help please pc wont start

As the title suggests i can't get my pc to start. If only i had bought a mac.

I'm running xp on sp3. It gets to the log in screen. I then go to log in, it loads my desk top background and then gives up.

I've tried logging in as different users, samething happens.

I've tried starting in safe mode but when i log in i just get a black screen with safe mode in each corner. I've also tried to start with 'last known good configuration' with no joy.

So now i'm stuck. If anyone can help me out so i can get this thing started i will love you for ever.

Sorry for way this is written but i had to do it on my mobile

Scott does your mouse still move around and such or is the PC frozen? If you still have control over the PC do a CTRL+ALT+Delete to bring up task manager, then click file then click new task and type in "explorer.exe" this should hopefully launch the windows explorer enviornment (read icons and start bar).

Worth a shot before you try anything else.
