hadyn
Im interested to know if theres anyone on here who runs 2 performance cars on this board - 1 as their daily driver and 1 as their 'toy'. When I say performance, I mean something japanese, turbo'd and probably the same insurance group as the Supra. I'd like to know the average cost involved in regards to total insurance, fuel and road tax etc please so I can do a few sums Cheers... Andy-No-Knee
How about MR2 (missus) Soarer (me) Jeep (for the dog and shopping runs, I hate Sainburys car park and it hates my car!)?
hadyn
How much is that lot costing you then Carlos?
Andy-No-Knee
Well the Soarer has a single conversion and is pushing 370+ at the wheels, and is around the £600 mark from Sky. (I'm 39, full NCB and IAM) The MR2 is about £270 for the missus, tpft 3 yrs NCB, 33yrs. The Jeep is LPG converted and about £270 tpft. With Aid Flux. Fuel is a beeeeatch! lol. I did look at multipul car policies but due to the mods on the Soarer I had to go for a special policy (thanks Sky), used to be with Flux for that too but Sky beat them. And I managed to talk the missus into...paying her own insurance!!! My God, you would have thought I suggested she let me sleep with her sister too... :eyebrows: but she went with the insurance instead! Does that help?? Oh, and I have a 250cc scooter that I comute on to work as well, and bussiness cover for the MR2 and Jeep as well (£30 each!)
martini
When I say performance, I mean something japanese, turbo'd and probably the same insurance group as the Supra. Whilst there are a lot of turbo'd Japanese performance cars, by no means are performance cars all turbo'd or all from Japan... Maybe the criteria can be opened wider? Safely Insured
I have a turbo engine converted Mk1 Mr2 (3SGTE) weekend toy, a Corolla T Sport daily driver, and another Mk1 Mr2 on a classic policy. 28 4 years NCB, insurance is £1000 per year, road tax +£600. The killer for me is the repair/service/maintenance on the three cars, especially the turbo. BUT, I love my cars, they make me happy so why not?! johnny g
I run a 535d, MR2 Turbo (v6 turbo) and the Supra. I've got 3 separate policies, because it works out cheaper to do it that way, for me. 535: £610 MR2: £590 Supra: £680 I also had the MR2 Spider, which was £380 a year, but I sold that because it wasn't getting used. DaveK
I thought I ran two performance cars - but since your criteria is that they must be Japanese, I guess I don't actually run any. How odd.
Scott
Only just sold the MR2 Tubby. Before getting rid we had... Supra - BPU, Exterior Modifications etc etc all declared MR2 Tubby - BPU, Exterior Modifications etc etc all declared 106 Gti - 30bhp Filter, 60bhp superchip, 15bhp alloys & 12bhp paint all declared Insurance was £892 for all 3 on a multicar policy with Admiral. Off the top of my head the Supra was just over £400, the MR2 & the 106 were similar at just over £200. Supra was a weekend car so no problems with fuel there. 106 gets 300 to a tank (£45) with me driving and the MR2 got 220-250 miles out of a tank (£45 ish) with the Wife driving. Road tax was a bitch as was servicing. £200 per car in tax plus I budgeted £200 a service (to make up for MOT odds and Sods). If you are planning on doing it make sure the insurance is a one off payment. I would not recommend going with monthly installments as its always best to have free cash if something needs done. Scott
How did you manage to get modified cars on an Admiral Multicar? They don't insure mods? The mods themselves aren't insured, they are only declared. You can declare up to 5 mods per car online, if you want to declare more you need to call them. I selected mostly the same things for all 3: Full Bodykit Wheels Suspension Exhaust/manifold Mods Filters MR2 was as above without suspension but with interior decorative changes. 106 was as above with Engine Chip rather than bodykit. I called them up telling them some other stuff such as painted engine bits and angel eyes but they said they were fine.

Are you not worried that you'll be at a loss if you car was totaled?
