SteveL
BigDino, I don't want to get into the whole debate about who's fault it is, whether or not you should have the dog - as I like probably most people on here don't know you.... So, is there not a local rehoming centre or a Rhodesian owners 'club'/organisation near by that would take her? I appreciate that you've only just heard, but please give her a chance and see if she can have a life with someone else... it's a massive shame that she could be destroyed because of what has happened and the changes in circumstances. There are plenty of people out there that can help in this situation.... Good luck...
AndrewOW
By the sounds of it the dog was in a unusual and intimidatory situation, and then when 'played' with or approached by someone he wasn't sure of, then maybe he thought he was being attacked. I have no idea of the situation, but it's such a waste if ordinarily he's a gentle dog. Anyway, I'm sure you know what you are doing, and don't need us butting in, but you did start the thread after all. I hope you do the right thing, and give him a chance with someone else, maybe? Just my 2p.
BigDino
Yes i did start the thread, and if you read it correctly its not my choice. She was living with her and attack her child, hence HER making the decision. I 've done alot of soul seaching and come to the conclusion its the right decision. Right or wrong its a sh*tty time. She's my ex, i could slate her, but i'm not going too, and stand (sit) by her choice. Try rehoming a dog that has attacked a child or bitten a human. Meko
there's still people who'd take a dog who'd bitten somebody... i've hardly got any feeling in my little finger after mine bit me a year ago... If the dog is advertised for rehoming with all the information there's no reason why a new owner can't be found - even if it's somebody who owns a farm or lots of land for it to run about. But like you say, it's not your choice.
Dnk
I find that quite insulting too after owning these types of dogs for years, both of us and her longer than me. Youll have to be insulted then although that wasnt my intention and i was passing a general comment that far too many people have a dog and think thats all thats involved, owning dogs for years doesnt mean you know bugger all about them. Im sorry its a very sad time for you, think how the dog feels as it gets put down ????
tbourner
Aww that's so sad, it's true what people are saying there is very often a way out and people do jump straight into the PTS option too readily in these situations. Having said that none of us were there, none of us know the dog at the time, none of us know the situation - when I say none I mean not even the OP!! This is 3rd hand info we're getting so lay off, it's a sad time losing a pet no matter what the situation. We need a soap box sale on this forum sometimes. AndrewOW
I know. It's just a shame when there could be another solution. Apologies Mr Dino
j80leo
Let us know the out come as i will be blocking you if it's the wrong one. I feel strong about this after loosing my beloved dog who i would have done anything to save, but could not and you do not sound like you can even be bothered to save this dog. So just do the easy option and tell your ex to go ahead with it.

So just do the easy option and tell your ex to go ahead with it. doesn't sound like there's much he can do. Because i'm paraplegic and would strugle with her where i'm living at the moment along with the obvious difficulties. Plus, if it's her dog she can go ahead and have it put to sleep regardless of what he says. Just a trip to the vets before he can arrange anything.
