BigDino
My ex has just rang me about our dog we had together to say she's having her put to sleep because she's bit her little one. I feel shitty but i know its the right thing to do. Bummer.

BigDino
Its not really my choice and once its bitten a child i doubt anyone would take her, plus the fact if it attacked a child again and did some serious damage how would you live with yourself. AndrewOW
How serious was the bite, as maybe it was just a nip, rather than a full on attack? I'd least try to find out what happened first, as kids can tease and get a little warning first? Sorry to hear you're resorting to that option. I don't know what I'd do in your position. BigDino
I think it was more the fact they were all in the room when it happened. I wasn't there just got the phone call earlier today. This is twice its happened now, the first time was her friends child but that was just a warning i think and this time was a head attack on her son. stupra
I'm a dog lover, but I think that putting a dog to sleep that has bitten someone is the only option. . What type of dog is she out of interest ?.
Abz
Sorry to hear this dude, but like you say...sometimes its better to be safe than sorry. It is terrible news though. Out of interest, what bred is she?

DODGYDODDS
id rehome it, obv doesnt like small kids, prob jealous over the attention they steal, someone would take it as a pet. Shame to see such a lovely dog wasted
Gambit
oddly enough I just posted about this breed in Chris Wilsons show thread, they can be very defensive. Sad to hear.
j80leo
Why don't you have you dog with you?? if it was both of yours then you should take some responsibility and have the dog with yourself, to put a dog to sleep is wrong unless it is the only option and this does not seem the case here. AndrewOW
Ooh don't let Rosie see this thread. So very sorry to hear about this. Was the child badly hurt? I also agree about the jealousy with kids, and it's such a shame that he was put in that situation if it's happened before. Very sad
pistonbroke
awww man, thats gutting. I love ridgebacks too I'd take her off you in a heart beat, but I have an 18 month old son.
Todd
I also agree about the jealousy with kids, and it's such a shame that he was put in hat situation if it's happened before.( Our dog hates young kids but we've know that for years and whenever there are kids about we put her in another room and lock her in. Not the dogs fault, if it had happened once before then it should have not been put in the same situation again
Dnk
Its usually the owners at fault in my opinion and too many havent got a clue about their dog or how to look after it or how to control it. Theres a bit more to it than buying a tin of dog food and taking it for a walk once in a blue moon.
BigDino
Before you start jumping on my head i tend to agree with most on here, but she is no longer my dog hence the ex, and she was great with the little one up until now according to my ex. I only learned of these things today. I'm sure people with babies that had a dog attack them would probably make the same decision. There are always going to be people that agree with it and disagree with it. It's easy to blame the owners, but if it comes out its happened before and it kills or seriously injures a child then people will say why didn't you have it destroyed when it first happened, you can't win. BigDino
Theres a bit more to it than buying a tin of dog food and taking it for a walk once in a blue moon. I find that quite insulting too after owning these types of dogs for years, both of us and her longer than me.
j80leo
So what is the reason behind you not having the dog with you?
j80leo
Just give the dog to someone who has no children jobs a good one and inform them that the dog is no good with children:)
BigDino
So what is the reason behind you not having the dog with you? Because i'm paraplegic and would strugle with her where i'm living at the moment along with the obvious difficulties.

Rob
As said above re-home it to a family with no kids. Killing it, and let's be clear here, its not being "put to sleep" it's being killed, is just revenge and that is pointless.
