adam1983
got back home tonight after a long drive and when i got out of my car i noticed that there was a rattling noise coming from under the car. not too sure what it could be but wondering if anyone has any suggestions before i take it to the garage tomorrow? could it have anything to do with the exhaust pipe? caught the underside on a speed ramp at the weekend but thought nothing of it as there was no rattling then. not sure if that is it though so any suggestions would be nice. cheers
Konrad
Heatshields? Exhaust mounting? Without checking noone really can say anything, it's pure guessing
adam1983
if it is because of the speed ramp i guess i will have to plan my route a bit better. i hate speed ramps!! why are there so many where i live?
adam1983
just went outside to have another listen for the noise and to try to pinpoint exactly where it is coming from and for some reason the noise is no longer there. hopefully its nothing too difficult to find as i dont want it just appearing again
gordy07
I have a rattle that comes and goes,on mine it is the heatshield on the exhaust i just havent got round to sorting it yet. Hopefully yours is a straight forward to fix too.
adam1983
is the heatshield towards the front end of the car or the back? tried shining a light underneath not long ago but cant really see too much
DODGYDODDS
sorry if this is a daft question, but is it rattling when the car is stationary?
adam1983
it was mate yeah. went out a while after to check again and the rattling had stopped but it was rattling when it was stationary. i left the engine on and got out of the car when i noticed it. seems weird that the noise has gone for now
DODGYDODDS
prob heat shield related then, hopefully it wont come back.
DanBEXsupra
i had a rattling heat shield on mine. i just took it off. used to make the car sound like an old banger! just ca case of getting the garage to raise it up, heat up the bolts that hold it on and it will drop off, rattle solved! (providing it is the heat shield, sounds a bit like a woodpecker would if he had a go at a discarded baked beans can!)
adam1983
rattling noise is now sorted. turns out it was a thin metal bracket next to the heat shield towards the front of the car. didnt seem like the bracket was there for much reason apart from holding up a small cable but after removing the metal bracket the cable hung in pretty much the same way. finally the noise has gone! thanks for all the suggestions
