Chris Wilson
We entered our first dog show on Saturday at Stafford. Quite a big show, and I was totally green as to what to expect in the ring. We took our rescue Anatolian Karabash who is three and half years old. A friend was there who was an old hand, and asked if I had swotted up as to what to do. I just said yes, make sure the damned thing doesn't fight with any other dogs, or bite the judge. She gave up on me straight away and I just winged it. A first and a second, and a comment that the dog looked good, but I should be groomed and better trained for next time. Some bloke who is apparently well into showing Anatolians and had come from the far end of the county to wipe up was seen to tear up his programme, his third place certificate, and throw his toys from the pram and *ugger off home in a huff She's now qualified for Crufts in March, not bad from a 50 quid mutt! Not sure if I could really get into this sort of thing though, most of the women looked like blokes, and vice versa, plus a LOT of standing about whistling Dixie. Chris Wilson
No, mainly because we / she doesn't have a video camera. But if we did have one I'd think of another excuse
Rob
Luckily for you we'll not be seeing you on telly for some time.
Chris Wilson
Is Crufts still off the BBC list this year? Guess it's OK to set up a bent TV studio audience for one of their most popular TV "high brow" chat shows, but hells bells, mustn't be seen televising a dog show
edge
Its good to hear that your judge was a good one and actually judged the dog and not the owners faces which we used to see when we showed our boy. The politics, people bitching and bent judges just made it not worth while. The smaller shows are alot better and more fun. I prefer watching agility and i think the dogs enjoy aswel. AndyT
Love Anatolians. Well done both of you. 50 quid for an AK is a bit of a bargain Chris. Well done there too.
Chris Wilson
She was a rescue, we could have had her FOC but I made a small gesture for legality sake. So if she wins Crufts there's no argument who owns her We have another older bitch and have had another before these. You love Anatolians ehh? You must be as mad as we are then, they can be such hard work
Gambit
Good result for a newbie. My mum used to be into all this madness with Rhodesian Ridgebacks, not sure if she still is...

You must be as mad as we are then, they can be such hard work Fortunately don't have the room for them Chris. I do like the bigger, rarer dogs though. Rhodesians are another favourite. I have been reading some on the lineage issues surrounding dog breeding recently and it's a pleasure to see your input / concern there too. One of the worst cases I've read concerns King Charles Spaniels. They've been bred with such little concern that their skulls are now too small for their brains. How much pain does that cause the poor mites? Let alone the various ailments they suffer.

pistonbroke
Well done mate. When I was a kid, my sister and I entered my five year old rhodesian ridgeback into a local show. On the run around the ring show off bit, my dog, 'Red', decided to curl out the biggest shit you've ever seen, I swear this thing had its own area code. We never bothered waiting for the results
