Nuts!!!

Weds do lightweight black anodised wheel nuts, standard nuts and lock nuts.

I'll let Darren reply for himself but if they are the same ones he bought they were too long on either the rears or the fronts, IIRC they didn't allow the weds centre caps to be fitted.

Strange.... I've sold many sets of the Weds SA-70's, Weds wheel nuts and centre caps and not heard of any problems, also seen them fitted together without problem.

I've PM'd Darren with a link to the thread so hopefully he can set it straight. Looking at his garage pics it looks like it was the rears that caused the problem: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/vbpicgallery.php?do=big&p=11074

I bought the black anodised nuts. If I recall correctly, what happened was this... I bought the wheels and the nuts together, and the centre caps subsequently. When buying the centre caps, I had assumed they would cover the entire central area (i.e. including where the nuts were) and couldn't understand how this would work, as the nuts appeared too long to allow centre caps to fit over the top. I guess I must have had this conversation with Darryl, hence his recollection here.

But it turned out that the centre caps are tiny and only cover the middle couple of inches or so, as shown in the pic Darryl linked to earlier. So, it wasn't an issue at all.

All that said, I can't recommend Weds wheels or the anodised nuts at all. Despite looking after the wheels EXTREMELY well (i.e. washing them at least weekly with two bucket method, always using natural fibre mits, never letting any salt stay on them, and sealing them with JetSeal109 with every wash), the chrome started to flake off after just a few months. Everyone I've spoken to who knows something about wheels says it's clearly down to a substandard plating process from Weds, rather than, say, exposure to harsh conditions.

The chrome plating has been slowly been surely coming off the spokes, but fortunately only on the surfaces that perpendicular to the tyre wall, so under casual scrutiny, they still look perfect. I've decided that if it gets really bad, I'll just have the wheels resprayed in black.

Furthermore, the nuts started to corrode after about the same amount of time, with all the anodised black coming off them.

I wouldn't really mind if the wheels had only cost a few hundred quid and if the nuts only cost £20 or so, but these wheels and nuts were FAR more expensive.

I was after some wheel nuts a few months back for my Volk wheels.

Here is a link of some of the stuff that Dusty (MVP Motorsports) sent me.

Take a look here and tell me what models/colors you like:

Another thing to bear in mind with the Weds wheels (well, definitely the SA-70s) is that the sleeve that the nut goes into is very tight. Most places I've taken the car to don't have a socket that actually fits into the sleeve, as the sockets typically have metal that is too thick, so it won't go down sufficiently to get a good grip on the nut.

It may be that buying a smaller nut may help, if that's possible...

Internal drive nuts ftw (that's what I needed for my Rota that suffer the same problem)

That's what I ended up getting as normal 19mm nuts fitted in but could not get a socket around the outside.

The beauty of internal drive tuner nuts is that they also act as locking nuts on all 20 studs on the car (just don't lose the key) ;)

But they are a right sod to keep clean and nice inside. ;)

It would be nice if they came with a plug of some sort to keep the harsh stuff out.
